2001 Olds Bravada noise from rear axle when driving

My 2001 Bravada just started making a 'whirring' sound that seems to be coming from the rear passenger wheel/axle area. The sound increases/decreases depending on my speed (even when in neutral) and stops when the vehicle isn't moving. The sound is similar to the noise you hear with heavy duty snow tires on a dry road. Any ideas on what this may be?

Have a 98 Olds Bravada it has a noise coming from rear of engine on the passenger side. Dealership said it was possible a transmission issue. I think differently, b/c the noise is at park or drive.

Depends on the noise. Tapping or knocking is rod bearings, engine side. Whining is the transmission side. Torque converter, pump, and parts further inside the transmission.

88sedandeville, something snapped in transaxle or rh axle, just makes strange whirring grind noise. Is it drive chain or axle? Should I just get another trans?

make sure the axle joint didn't fail then on the pass side of the car behind the axle there is a cover that houses the differential open that and check the gears in there

I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have a Whining noise in my front end area, seems to go away when turning to the left. Also I have a strange clicking noise mainly under braking, but when you have the...

This noise is more likely caused by the iiner constant velocity joint. When turning the axle makes a franction of an angle in which no perpendicular to the ground. You'll gonna need to have it check as there is a possiblity that the wheel drum or axle assembly might come off when driving in high speed to avoid accident.

Grinding noise on 2002 Olds Bravada

Try making tight turns to the right and then to the left. see if the grinding noise comes and goes. It could be your C/V joint and they need to be replaced. The noise will only come when your making the tight turns, you don't have to go fast. Walking speed will do and you can hear it with the window open or someone walking beside the Bravada. Good luck and keep me posted. Be glad to help.
