I had this problem with my 2002 jeep overland. it took forever to get the problem resolved. I took it to the jeep garage and the fixed everything else that still didn't correct the problem. Finally one of the mechanics took it for a test drive(I told them it didn't do it until it warmed up) and ran a diagnostic. It was a relay for the transmission. Can remember how much it cost seeing all the other things they fixed added up to a good chunk of change.

Hope this helps

Problems with my 1999 Pontiac Grand am v6.

Check the wiring that plugs into your speed sensor that is attached to your transmission. It is likely that it is loose, broken or both. If it is loose, the speedometer is getting eratic readings from the sensor. Therefore, it will jump around. The same thing happened with my 2002 Grand Caravan. But in my case, one of the wires was chewed through by rodents.

It is possible that it is getting to much fuel to the engine. I would check the fuel filter first though. It may be clogged. Make sure that your battery terminals and your wires are in good shape and there are not no tears. Make sure they are not coming loose after you put them back on. Your fuel pump may be beginning to wear down as well.

There are several parts of the steering which can cause a problem such as your describing....If your vehicle is fitted with a steering damper that would be the first thing to have checked....Tie rods and particulally tie rod ends....Ball joints can also be worn out, causing an unpredictable and eratic steering behaviour.....I would also have the shock absorbers checked too....The fault you're reporting is a dangerous fault, so plaese have it checked as soon as you can and don't use the vehicle until its been repaired....Regrds Johngee

Eratic shifting of gears at speeds of 55 to 75

I would check the transmission fluid level and color, should be a nice clear red color. You may need to have the filter replaced. Possibly some internal transmission problem also.

The o2 sensors are located on the exhaust system. The upstream in on the rear exhaust manifold and the down stream is in front of the catalytic converter.Usually when they are bad they will make the check engine like go on.Make sure the air filter is clean, tires at correct inflation, alignment is to specs. If the vehicles pulls to one side or the other or steering wheel is not straight when driving down a straight stretch of road. Also tires are wearing normal.Use cruise control where ever on highway. If you let your vehicle warm up in winter. This also uses gas.Hope this helps.Good luck.

I've got to be reading this incorrectly...You are driving, the engine turns off...you pull off the road? And then without touching the key the engine re-starts, but you haven't touched the key? Or, sometimes you need to sit there for a few minutes and then turn the key to start it?
