BOUGHT CAR USED LIKE THIS?
FACTORY OEM RADIO, BY kIA
OR AFTER MARKET RADIO, Wired in by hand.
connector to it loose? (behind)
I'd say AM is weak and FM is dead
and the antenna is not connected to radio. missing off top right fender? if missing expect:
AM in the city is so powerful it can seem it is ok and is not. see?
FM never works if antenna is unplugged or omg missing
CD DRIVES:
now the CD player.
96160-FD110? model OEM ?
well its old and many now are dead.
but try a real CD_DA, compact disk, digital audio , DISK
NOW CALLED A REAL MUSIC DISK.. (LAME)
one CD that sold in a brick store, with a real label and is not MP3 disk
no CD-R recordables allowed. no DVD music disks allowed DVR-R
If a real branded labeled, MUSIC DISK it may work.
try that first. ok?
most old car Radios do not play all CDs,. TYPES.
this old CD drive inside needs to be cleaned (dust off all optics) must.
the cars users guide has no radio topic coverage at all
so they had separate manual for it. (and super rare to find)
Radios naturally come with am, so it will always work so long as there's power to the radio. Fm, however, is a built in receiver and if they break or start to break, then you will lose power to your fm which it sounds like is starting to happen to you.
Usually it is the drive unit for the CD. The linear tracking device that drives and guides the CD read laser is not tracking. Usually when this happens there is NO fixing it. You might just have to bite the bullet and get a new head unit.
Well, if you push the cd button and no cd player is installed, then you can try a salvage yard to find one and have an auto electric shop install it for you.
Otherwise, you can go to a place like Best Buy, and have them install a cd changer, like a Sony, for instance, that plays through a certain FM stereo frequency on your radio and they might be able to make it so that it powers up when you hit the cd button, although
many times they'll just have it power up on your ignition key being on, and you have to remember what frequency or preset on your radio to have to hear the cd-player play.
