Fuel delivery problem on a 2003 suburban

Vehicle had been running fine and one morning it would not start. I bled the fuel line (on top of the engine) and it had a little pressure but not much. I replaced the fuel filter and now hardly any fuel pressure on the bleed valve mentioned above. The fuel filter ties into something I assume is a pressure regulator which has electrical connections to it. A parts store had no idea what the unit might be and it did not show on any of their schematics. I suspect this may be the culprit since the fuel line from the filter goes into this unit and then a line comes out of it to the engine compartment. The electric fuel pump in the tank is working. At least I can hear it running and when it builds up pressure it shuts off. Any ideas would be appreciated. GR

That is the fuel composition sensor ! Does your Suburban have duel fuel tanks or single tank ? What engine is in yours ? The fuel pressure regulator in located on the fuel injector rail on top of the engine . I would say the fuel pump was bad , just from personal expeirence . But if you don't know how to test the electrical circuit an check for fuel pressure with the correct tools , i suggest you take it to your chevy dealer . Is it a flex fuel vehicle ?

SOURCE: hard start

Its your fuel pump.I had the same plomblem not too long ago.I was spraying either in to start it.I have a 97 chevy truck witch requires 65 psi to start and 55 to run properly. You need to find out much psi you need to start it.You can probaly look in your manual or just make a few calls. My truck had 55 psi and it ran fine i just had to get it running first.Good luck.I wonder if that fuel pressure regulator was a waste of time like it was for me.

SOURCE: 1989 cavalier z24 dies at stops and transmission kicks!

I had the same problem with my 1989 Chevy Cavalier Z24 with the Automatic transmission. There is an electric lock up clutch within the torque converter that engages at roughly 35mph. It's designed to give the car better highway mileage. If that circuit fails, the clutch will remain in the "locked" position when hot, and stalls the car unless neutral is engaged and the car comes to a complete stop. I remember the car making all sorts of odd noise with this malfunction. I took mine to the dealership and they had it repaired in an hour.

My daughter had a similar problem with her 1988 Cavalier Z24 with the manual 4-speed transmission. There is a speed sensor on the top of the transmission that I replaced which solved the problem for her.

SOURCE: fuel pressure regulator had no vacuum line connected

another engineers wet dream. think of it this way . what is normally in the intake when the engine is running.. answer vacume, hence the regulator gets its vacume without a hose connected to it as its already in a full time vacume chamber.no hose required . ps be carefull to seat the regulator and o rings securely into the housing befor you reattach the secureing metal clip.

SOURCE: My 2000 S10 with the 4.3l vortec is hard to start.

Key on engine off pressure on your truck should be 60-66lbs. A fuel pump replacement is definitely in order, bad thing is it is a whole assembly.

Will not start after ran out of diesel and lose oil pressure

You have provided little information to go on here JBM but some diesel engines (depending on year, make, model) require the injectors to be manually bled to remove the air in trapped in the fuel delivery lines after running of of fuel.

Check the (owners manual) to see if your engine is self bleeding.

When you say that it tries to start but does not turn over - I interpret that to mean that the starter is cranking the engine, but the engine fails to start. Is that correct?
The ignition on these cars occasionally looses a single coil, but is not prone to loosing all ignition on all cylinders at once, so probability indicates that the problem is lack of fuel delivery.
This car is prone to two fuel delivery problems: 1) Failure of the fuel transfer pump that moves fuel from the driver side tank to the passenger side tank where the fuel delivery pump is located. If the car runs out of fuel when the gas gauge registers 1/4 full, and runs again if you add more fuel, this is the problem. 2) Failure of the fuel delivery pump. This is less common, but my wife's '04 330 lost a fuel pump at 80k miles, so it can happen.

WHAT IS FLEX FUEL IN CHEV 1500 SUBURBAN

Two key technologies help make this Suburban a clean and relatively efficient alternative fuel vehicle: GM's Active Fuel Management cylinder deactivation allows this engine to operate on only four of it's eight cylinders under light load conditions. The onboard computer determines if /when appropriate conditions exist for cylinder shutdown, and similarly determines when reactivation should occur. Under ideal conditions as much as 12-15 percent fuel savings can be realized. Flex-fuel capability compensates for the varying ratios of ethanol in the fuel, and adjusts engine parameters accordingly. Higher amounts of alcohol produce cleaner emissions and generally, (but not always) require re-calibrated fuel delivery.

Signs of a Bad Fuel Pressure Regulator
the vehicle will not start, if a bad regulator. Usually, this is a problem that is encountered in the morning when you start your vehicle. Many a times, the engine starts, but stalls shortly after starting. check the fuse and relay for pump. also remove line to fuel pressure regulator and if fuel in line, replace fuel pressure regulator. check for spark and also the timing belt. its one sign of not starting. if car runs fine on spray, I would not say its the timing belt or chain.

2003 chevy suburban wont start in the morning after sitting over night, if it has less than half a tank of gas?

it sounds like you have a fuel line problem inside the tank, maybe a pinhole, once fuel level gets below pinhole the line loses pressure. once it loses pressure you have to keep turning switch on & off too get pressure built back up.

2005 suburban stabilatrac disabled

The Reduce Engine Power problem on my 03 Suburban went away when I had to replace the fuel mixing sensor. I damaged the sensor by topping off with E85 (ethanol) by mistake late at night. The vehicle just would not turn on in the morning. The vehicle had to be towed to the dealer. I was in Carlsbad NM about 800 miles from home. I had no choice but to pay $1,100 to get it fixed. At the same time the Reduce Engine Power problem went away. And thanks to God it has not come back for nine 9 months now.

WHERE IS THE FUELFILTER LOCATED AT ON THE 2003 TOWN&COUNTRY? THANKS

The fuel filter on this vehicle is located on the top of the fuel tank. You will have to unbolt the tank retaining straps and lower the tank enough to work on the top. Of course the tank should be nearly empty and always supported from underneath. I suggest you have this done as it is not a fun job and has it's hazards. The fuel delivery system will be pressureized and must be pre-drained prior to opening the line or you may be doused with fuel. Drain the fuel delivery system by removing the fuel pump relay and running the engine until the fuel runs out. Disconnect the negative battery terminal before you start working on the filter. Be very careful
