Speedometer quits working and D4 light flashes on 1995 Honda Odyssey. The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is bad. You will need a replacement ($39 online) sensor, Ratchet with extra long extension, 10 mm socket w/ swivel, a long flexible wand with a magnet on the end, and a flashlight. Unplug the wire from the old VSS. Remove the two mounting bolts. Lift out the old VSS and the drive key. Put a small amount of grease on the new drive key and insert it into the new VSS. Plug the wire into the new VSS and use the wire to lower the VSS into place aligning it with the two mounting holes. Use the magnet wand to lower the bolts into the holes and turn to just get the bolts started. VSS IS FLUSH WITH THE TRANSMISSION BEFORE TIGHTENING THE BOLTS. You are now finished. You can access the VSS from the top of the engine in your garage/driveway. It is located on the top/backside of the transmission, just below the air cleaner hose. Best done in the morning when the engine is cold unless you like getting burns on your forearms. Good luck!

SOURCE: No speedometer, D4 flashes, No

Disconnect the negative terminal battery for 30 minutes then reconnect the battery. This resets the computer. Then check. If still the same problem is noticed, that means the problem is with the speedometer connections or speedo itself. ----------Under the speedo there are few wires connecting to its circuit board. If any of the wires gets loose, then it will not let the speedo to work.Or if the speedo circuit board itself is short, then it will not let it to work. Both possible:--- Also one more time.Remove the speed sensor, with battery unplugged, then clean the new sensor terminals.Cleat the area where you are inserting the sensor, then re fit the sensor and check , if that helps. If not then check the voltage at VSS connector.Checking the voltage will confirm, that VSS is receiving correct power to function.-------------- To get exact instructions for how to check voltage and how to check speedocircuit board, click this link below and follow the instructions:----- http://howtobyme.blogspot.com/2011/06/d4-flashes-on-honda-acura.html ------------ This should help.thanks.Helpmech.

SOURCE: Vehicle Speed Sensor

Cvt transmission is continuously variable transmission. VSS is vehicle speed sensor. A faulty sensor can make the transmission run erratic.

I have a 95 accord and D4 starts blinking and speedometer gozz crazy ya'll know y???

I had the same problem with my 95 accord, your vehicle speed sensor is going bad, the part new is like 100 bucks, you could possibly find one at a junkyard, I had to buy one new, the sensor itself will sit on the passenger side, under the intake hose, its a pain to get to if you have large hands. But it is something that you definitely need replaced

How to fix the speedometer on my 1995 honda accord

There are two possibilities. One is that the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is not working or its connection/wiring are having a problem. However, if your car has an automatic transmission, bad VSS would be causing all kinds of other problems besides just the speedometer not working.

The other possibility is a faulty instrument panel, you would have to remove the dash and replace the panel.

For either one, refer to a manual for instructions on removal or installation, they are too detailed to include here. There are free online manuals for your car at www.autozone.com.
