Time for a trans rebuild.
Best bet is to get it to a shop as it just may be something easy, but as a chevy mechanic, I honestly HATE every GM transmission.

SOURCE: 97 gmc pickup with automatic transmission trouble

1st thing to do is test the system for codes, the problem is most likely a failed or stuck shift solenoid indside the trans, have you ever serviced the trans, sometimes a fluid and filter cahnge will cure these kinds of issues.

SOURCE: 93 Jeep Grand Cherokee Won't start

Are you getting spark from coil wire when cranking? If so, check the cap & rotor. If not, the most common failure is the crank sensor. If you have a 4,0, you can find it on the drivers side of the bellhousing, in line with the flywheel, just where it's annoying to work on. There is a test you can make, but I don't have the specific test values or the correct terminals to check. (you can find that info in any half decent manual.
Good luck

SOURCE: 4L60E Shifts fine in 1st, 2nd, & 3rd but will not shift into OD

The EMC detected and problem so it's in limp mode, As long as it's in limp mode the 4th and OD will not activate. Take care not to burn up the transmission by running it hard while your in the limp mode.
Your going to have to get the truck scanned to clear any codes and why there are DTC codes. Auto Zone scan for free and most auto shops charge $10.00 to $20.00 to scan sine they want the business.
If you want to clear the codes your self you can put the ignition to the run position and pull the ECM (Batt) fuse out for 20 sec and place it back in then start the truck. It may stall but let it, just start it again and this would have cleared all the DTC code history.
The transmission should be running fine unless there is a problem and the service engine light will be on again and you'll be in limp mode still with an updated DTC in the ECM.
Good luck and hope this helps.

2005 Chevy Impala 3.4 V6. Why is it stuck in drive?

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved to model category.

Wow, that is cold for Texas. It probably has the original transmission fluid in and it is gummy and thick. The filter is probably blocked because of the cold and the shift solenoids are also sticking because of the temperature. Start the vehicle and let it tick over until it gets to normal operating temperature, then try again. Get to a transmission shop and have the transmission filter cleaned and new transmission fluid.

I have recently bought a 82 chevy truck!! when i got it runnin it would drive forward in park and all the other gears on column!! stayed in one gear and wont shift! what would be causin this??

this is somthing pulling on the cord of your collom shifter causing park to be drive, drive to be first and 2nd to be first so when it is in drive it wont shift. so what you need to do is follow the cable that goes to the column shifter and make shure their is nothing pulling or putting stress on to the wire. also if the truck is lifted that is certainly the problem if its not lifted than its just more than likely the problem.

This may sound crazy to you. Check the fuse that controls the speedometer, cruise control and interior dome light. My 93 f150 battery was going dead every night. One morning I noticed the dome light inside was still on. I couldn't get it to go off so I pulled the fuse that is under the dash on the driver side. Light went out and so did speedometer. When I drove it later that day it wouldn't shift from low until I let off the gas. Then it would shift around between gears for no apparent reason. It took me a day of two to put 2 and 2 together. When I put the fuse back in, the speedometer started working and it started shifting normally. I finally took the bulb out of the dome light and now all is well.On the 93 f150 the speedometer is electronically linked to the transmission shifting points. You may have other fuses that are linked to your transmission.
