Question about 1997 Geo Tracker 2 Door
I put in new clutch .i changed the rear seal.it leaked.i put another it is leaking i put a oil pan gasket on still leaking can you help?
Which seal. ? rear of WHAT?
3sp,4speed or 5sp. tranny.?
my wild guess, is the rear transfer case leaks, and if yes, where.?
it can leak in 3 places. (ive rebuilt them and the boxes)
or the rear engine seal.
so the rear seal can be, in 3 places.
if you work on 4wd, it really can be 5 places.
6 counting rear of front axle.
that is because the exit paths are shared on many.
first tell me what you are driving like this.
97 geo 2dr, 5sp 4wd. like that, then we can answer in fine detail.

Not sure about your model but here is a Nissan Sentra. Might be similar. You decide.
Seal is behind belt pulley mounted in the timing cover. It actually seals to the shoulder on the back of the pulley (harmonic balancer), not the crank shaft. Use a special pulley removal tool, NOT a hammer or crowbar to remove. Breaks easy and is expensive to replace.

but a seal puller is $5 and one can use a ice pick and punch a hole into the seal . then screw in a wood screws in the hole and pull it out.
just careful removal , no hurry.
the real problem is never put the seal back on unless you cover and protect the crank lip, this lip has a 100% seal destruction record.
suz stopped selling their $2 protecter so i use electricans tape.
no when you put the crank cog back on , be sure to use
a new factory bolt , they streatch , and set the torque 17mm bolt to 94 lbs/ft ( new TSB spec)
its all here on my page

Are you sure that it is oil and not transmission fluid? The stains can look similar unless you actually get down and touch the fluid. If it is reddish in color then it is transmission fluid, which means you have a leak somewhere in the transmission. Either way, check your transmission fluid level and make sure it is not low. If it is is low, add some fluid and bring it to a transmission specialist to help diagnose and correct the problem.

I would check hoses and water pump. When water pump goes bad it leaks water out hole out of bottom.Get pressure pump and pump up system it makes it easier to find leak.
