1998 honda accord speedometer wrong

145000 miles. Speed is MORE incorrect the faster I go. When speedometer reads 28, I am going 25. When speedometer reads 65, I am going 60. I have confirmed this w/ 2 gps units and while following & communicating with a car in front of me. Is it the speed sensor? I'd like to fix it, but I don't know of any other speedometer components. Thank you for any help.

My tires are 65s and have less than 6000 miles on them. I don't deviate from factory sizes for reasons like this. Any other thoughts? I can live with it. At least the error is in my favor when it comes to speeding. (Silver lining?)

I I recently went to a government speed awareness workshop (naughty boy!) and asked why all the cars I have recently driven (Vaux Zafira, Vectra, Astra, Honda Accord, Peugeot 106) were indicating a higher speed than my sat-nav. The answer they gave was that car manufacturers will always do this to err on the side of caution for boot-heavy drivers or drivers who neglect to check tyre pressures, so that in a court case they have one less thing to worry about. All these cars indicated about 5-10% over.

If it is a 60series instead of a 65 series tire that came on the car this will put the speedy off just like what your explaining !

You're speedometer is a electronic unit meaning that it either works or it dosen't. You're error is most likely caused by your tires. As tires wear they become smaller in diameter there for every revelution covers less distance. The diameter may not be much, but it may account for your speed error. Also do you have the correct size tires on the vehicle in the first place. I have had friends who have gotten speeding tickets because they went form the factory size tires to something larger, when the speedo read 60 the police radared them doing 68. enough for a ticket.

1999 Honda Accord EX. I can't find my speedometer sensor on my Accord?

Look behind the engine, almost directly under the engine air intake unit, to locate the vehicle speed sensor. Locate the sensor's 12 mm hex bolt. The bolt is slightly further back and towards the driver's side of the car, relative to the vehicle speed sensor connector.Jan 9, 2023

Speedometer works intermittently

hi, sounds like the vehicle speed sensor mounted on the transmission is going bad or loosing signal. generally, honda speedometers work for life, i've only ever replaced one. now, this is a split year so it may have just a cable going to the transmission instead of an electronic sensor. if the cable is loose, this may also cause this issue. you should probably have a professional shop take a look as the speedometer cable/sensor is very buried in the back of the engine compartment under the air intake hose and behind the starter. also, if there is a check engine light on when the speedo stops working, this should be an easy diagnostic for a technician to do, it would likely be the speed sensor causing this engine light.

91 speedometer and miles

I have a 91 Accord. When I purchased it, the speedometer did not work. I replaced the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) and the speedometer started working again. I paid $24 for the sensor on ebay. The local part stores wanted $150. It's an easy fix. It takes about 20 minutes to replace.
