2003 Cavalier LS 73,000 won't start

Car ran fine yesterday and this morning it won't start. It acts like it's going to start but never fires. I'm replacing the fuel filter right now, I am really afraid it's my fuel pump and I don't have $700 to get a new one. Any ideas would be great. I bought the car used from a dealership last March and it has been a great car until now.

One way to check is get someone to tap the midlle of the gas tank with a hammer while you are cranking the engine.if your fuel pump is worn out usualy it starts.if not check to see you may have spark problem.

If it is the fuel pump, you can get an inline electric one for about $60 and use it till you can afford the other.

Have you checked for spark at the plugs?

Car won't go into gear, only neutral

Too much trans fluid would not prevent it from going into gear. Do you have a check engine light on? This is probably going to be expensive. Get it to a transmission shop.

My car was running fine yesterday and this morning it didn't start. got a new battery, replaced the oil and checked the fuses. everything is fine but car still won't start. suggestions, please

Check for spark and fuel. When you turn the key on you should hear the fuel pump in the tank for a few seconds till the pressure builds up. When you crank the engine there should be spark at the plugs.

I have a 1999 Chev Cavalier Z24. It ran fine this morning went to start it and it will start but not idle. Even with throttle open, it just dies. At times the dummy lights and the lighting system act up...

CHECK FUEL PUMP FUSE AND RELAY.IF BOTH GOOD.YOUR FUEL FILTER STOPPED UP OR FUEL PUMP GONE.BUT FIRST HOOK CAR TO SCANNER TO SEE WHAT CODES IS BEFORE SPENDING A LOT OF MONEY.

2003 Cavalier, fuel problem after accident

there is no fuel pump cut off switch on this car, it is possible the fuel pump module was damaged from this accident, u will have to have the fuel pump circuit tested for faults before replacing the pump, don't guess, this is an expensive repair

2003 Cavalier LS 73,000 miles won't start

check and see if you are getting fuel at the fuel rail. the is a technical service bulletin for no start concerning the fuel strainer. the 03 came with a 100 micron strainer which clogs causing a no start problem due to low fuel pressure. should be 40to50 psi.
you can try tapping the fuel tank with a rubber mallet sometime that will getting the fuel pump working temporalily. also check the ignition module on top of the coil packs this part controls the spark. hope this helps
