CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM LIGHT

The Check Brake System light will appear, along the the ABS light and my power seems to drain, turning signal goes really fast, doors lock and unlock. It seems to go away temporarily when I put it in nuetral and rev up the engine. I have had this problem fixed twice in the last 4 months by my mechanic. (Guess it's not really fixed). Has this happened to anyone else? Please help.

First thing is to clean your battery terminals and posts. Then Have the battery and alternator tested at a auto parts store. They will do it for free.

2006 Chevy Uplander ls Abs light on and break light comes on and goes off

When the light is on, there will be a code set in the ABS computer.
This code should guide you to the problem.

When the light is on, the ABS system is disabled and they cannot activate.
If there are times when the light is off, then that would be the time you could possibly feel the system engage.

Most often, the problem is indeed a wheel speed sensor signal.
It's possible that the problem was with the wire harness that led to the sensor and not the sensor itself. This is most often the problem.
The wires that lead to the sensors are being bent every time the steering is turned and the suspension moves up and down. Over time, this cracks the wires and begins as an intermittant signal and eventually stops altogether.

What I do to diagnose is to first check the code.
Then a road test to read wheel speed at each wheel on the scan tool.
Then I turn the wheel left of right to see if the signal even momentarily appears. If this happens, the wire harness is the most suspect.
If not likely have to change one of the wheel bearings

What is the ABS system?

the ABS is anti brake skid which is designed to stop wheel lock up under brakes and allow steering control at all times
it was originally designed for aircraft to stop the under carriage from being ripped from the plane when the wheels (under brakes on landing ) hit a wet patch , snow or ice on the runway
it works by each wheel having a segmented sender that is read by a sensor and this impulse switches on valves in the electric pump in the hydraulic system so that when the wheel stops turning ,brake pressure to that wheel is released momentarily and then reapplied when the wheel turns again
the person using the brake still feels the same brake pressure under the foot and in extreme situations will feel the brake pedal pulsate
Now the ECM continually monitors the ABS system and when fluid sensors, or electronic sensors fall outside set parameters , the ABS light comes on to let you know that there is a problem with the brakes
you should now be having the fault codes read to find the reason for the light and have it repaired as in some systems ,if the repairs are not effected then the vehicle is put into limp mode by the ECM and that reduces the power available and the speed of the vehicle.

Battery light comes on stays on and then the car won't start

You appear to have soaked the abs system sensors in the wheels and shorted them out...A short can take a battery to zero in no time...Check out the car for shorts!

Sounds like a brake light. Check your brake fluid and fill to the correct level if low then see if it goes out.

The Brake light says "BRAKE" is the Brake System Warning Light: "This light monitors various brake functions, including brake fluid level and parking brake application. If the brake light turns on, it may indicate that the parking brake is applied, that the brake fluid level is low, or that there is a problem with the anti-lock brake system (if equipped)."

Another is the Anti-Lock Brake System Light: "This light monitors the Anti-Lock Brake System. The light will turn on when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position and may stay on for as long as four seconds. If the ABS light remains on or turns on while driving, it indicates that the Anti-Lock portion of the brake system is not functioning and that service is required. However, the conventional brake system will continue to operate normally if the BRAKE warning light is not on."

It could also be the Tire Pressure Monitoring light. Check the brake fluid first and see if that fixes it.

Have a 1999 Chev. Suburban. Problem is with brake lights. Top panel (on roof) works but neither side panel works. Replaced circut boards in tail lights, new bulbs, and all fuses are good. What next?

WITH A GOOD FUSE TESTER, TEST ALL THE FUSES FUSEBOX UNDER THE HOOD & INSIDE THE VEHICLE. IF THE FUSES ARE ALL GOOD WITH THE TESTER YOU MUST HAVE A BAD BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH OR A BAD TURN SIGNAL SWITCH. THE BRAKE LIGHT CIRCUIT GOES UP THROUGH THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH & THEN TO THE BRAKE LIGHTS. FIRST OF ALL IS THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH GOOD ? THE ORANGE WIRE FEEDS THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH, THE WHITE WIRE PUTS POWER TO THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH, SO THE LIGHTS CAN BE USED AS TURN LIGHTS OR BRAKE LIGHTS. , PUT A TESTER IN THE WHITE WIRE & PRESS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. IF THE TEST LIGHT LIGHTS UP, BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH IS GOOD, BY THE WAY THE BRAKE LIGHT FUSE MAY BE LABELED" STOP", THE FUSE LABELED" BRAKE" IS FOR THE ABS SYSTEM. TO CHECK THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH FOR BRAKE LIGHTS, REMOVE THE PLASTIC COVER FROM UNDER THE STEERING WHEEL, PRESS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, PUT THE TESTER IN THE SMALL YELLOW WIRE, THEN THE SMALL GREEN WIRE. IF THERE IS NO POWER IN EITHER WIRE, THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH IS BAD.

My abs light and my red parking light is on steady what kind of problem do i have

Hello treedy22.
Your car has a switch inside the brake master cylinder reservoir that will activate when the fluid level gets low. This will turn on your red brake light and deactivate the ABS system. That is why both lights are lit.
Check the fluid level, refill with DOT3 fluid ONLY. It may take a couple of minutes for the light to turn out as sometimes the switch sticks in the bore inside the reservoir..
Then you need to find out why the level is low. Check your braking system for leaks or excessively worn brake parts.
Hope your repair goes well.

My brakes lose power system intermittently

It's quite possible you may need to check out your ABS system. Certain GM light trucks of that year, and a few in subsequent years had issues with the EBCM (electronic brake control module) These units are mounted on top of the ABS valve body, under the vehicle, on the left frame rail (all the brake tubing is attached). Sometimes the faulty unit would cause the electric ABS motor to continue running even after ignition shut down. Sometimes they would cause erratic ABS actuation. The other thing may be a faulty vacuum check valve at the brake booster. If that valve goes bad, your brake pedal will be really high and hard to depress. On some 1/2 ton GM trucks with vacuum assist power brakes, there is an electronic sensor that measure vacuum to the booster. In those instances typically a warning message will come across the drivers info center on the instrument panel. I hope this info can help.
