Gear shifter for 2007 kia sedona LX will not go back into park. Shifts fine from reverse-neutral-drive but will not go back into park. Button on the side of gear shifter has been getting stuck and not going in but thought maybe I wasn't pressing it in or something. Brake lights come on

It sounds like the shifter replacement was not installed properly or a non-compatible shift cable. They might need to check your bushings in order to fix this issue. Please have the repair shop that did the replacement check what I've listed.

You have a failed transmission, you will need a rebuild.

Disconnect shift cable from transmission linkage and try to manually put transmission in drive gear ( make sure wheels chocked/park brake on ). If transmission goes into drive gear, suspect a shift cable or shifter assembly problem. If you can't manually shift into drive gear by hand with cable disconnected, suspect internal transmission/shift linkage issue

When you "muscled it into neural" you broke the shifter. Most likely it will take a replacement shifter to repair.

Time for a rebuild of the transaxle

I own a 2006 KIA SEDONA LX the gear shifter would get stuck and not allow me to shift into gear. Remedy 1 : I replaced the brake sswitch which controls this that was not the answer.Remedy 2: In the gear shift handle a took it apart in the piece you press it would not pop back out, on the opposite side i located the cover which houses a spring which I located it was broken in three piece replaced and up and running. shifter or linkage is damaged or out of adjustment or tranny park gear is damaged!

There was a recall released for this problem a couple of years ago. Check with your dealer

More then likely the cable from the shift lock solenoid that unlocks the shifter is binding up or the shift lock solenoid is sticking..
