Your timing is off, you'll have to reset it. unfortunately it is going to reqire that you remove everything you just got back together and doing it all over again. There are factory marks on both pullies that will line you up to top dead center. once you are there put the belt back on. double check and make sure its still at TDC. look for the ignition setting for your car, should be under your hood or in one of the doors.Ajust the by turning your distributor then put it back together and set the timimg, you'll need a timing light. hope this helps you

SOURCE: serpentine belt

the belt is being pulled by a spring loaded pulley. this pulley could be lift by using an exact box wrench that would fit at the front nut and turn the wrench to the left. the pulley would then raise and you can slide the belt off the pulley. be careful when releasing the pulley because the tension is really big.

another precaution also is to remember where the belt loops on the pulleys. it is very hard if you don't take a note on that. there are a lot of combination but only one will work.

tnx 4 using fixya.

SST stands for Special Service Tool. You can usually buy these tools on line of some of them at AutoZone

You will need to use the tool to take tnesion off the belt to replace. I suggest you either take a picture or draw how the belt is routed

Inspection

Inspect the drive belt for signs of glazing or cracking. A glazed belt will be perfectly smooth from slippage, while a good belt will have a slight texture of fabric visible. Cracks will usually start at the inner edge of the belt and run outward. All worn or damaged drive belts should be replaced immediately.

Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Rotate the auto tensioner clockwise to release tension, then remove the drive belt.

To install:
  1. Install drive belt (A). Route the belt over the components in the following order: Crankshaft pulley - A/C pulley - idler pulley - generator pulley - water pump pulley - P/S pump pulley - tensioner pulley.
  2. Rotate auto tensioner arm in the counter-clockwise moving auto tensioner pulley bolt with wrench.
  3. After putting belt on auto tensioner pulley, release the auto tensioner pulley slowly.

How do i remove serpentine belt?

you will need a 3/8'' drive breaker bar to pull back & hold the ''belt tensioner'' away & while doing so remove the serpentine belt. there is a 3/8'' square hole in the tensioner where you apply the bar. watch your fingers!

Engine made a weird noise when i started it & then the power steeing did not work & the battery light came on

the cerpenteen belt that runs the fan, powersteering pump, alternator(battery charger), and water pump broke. if the belt just broke from being old, just replace it. but check all of the pullys to make sure they spin relitivly easy. if you find one that dosen't spin easily, it could need replaced too.

2003 Jetta tdi serpentine belt

hi doug
im dave
there should be a diagram for the belt somewhere under the hood of your car usually adjacent to the emission (VECI) label near the rad the belt or on the actual hood
the tensioner is automatic adjusting. using a ratchet and the proper size socket rotate the tensioner (usually anticlockwise but youll be able to tell as you turn it) to release tension and slip the belt off of the alternator pulley. be careful not to let go of the tensioner while slipping the belt off or you will hurt your fingers!
