I'm considering buying a 1987 Toyota supra turbo. 81k miles. What major or minor issues can I expect or need to ask owner about ?

If you ask the owner for the faults he has had expect an out right lie as to nothing is wrong with the vehicle. With such low mileage better to ask why he is selling it. I suggest that the seller produces proof that he actually owns the car and is capable of selling it legally. Next take it for a good run ( not around the block) and be critical in listing all noises and problems you find. Next take it to a reputable mechanic for a frank appraisal of the faults and see what he comes up with. Any must do repairs should be deducted from the asking price as you will be stuck with that cost.. Considering the age and the listed mileage I am suspicious that the mileage has been tampered with as most cars average 15 to 25 k per year Be very cautious also because the parts supply for an 87 car has dried up and you will most likely only get second hand parts ( Panels)

What would be the your best guess for how long an 85 944 would last. This one that I'm looking at is in fair shape, clutch is a little weak, however, 160,000 miles I would expect at least that.

At 160,000 miles you are looking at a long list of issues that will crop up. The clutch is a huge job, even for a real mechanic in a shop. Unless the seller has a long list of maintenance and repair records, I would stay away. Things like timing, balance shaft belts and water pumps should have been recently done because they are frequent flyers on the maintenance schedule. The head gasket would likely need doing or should have been done by now. The exhaust manifolds and motor mounts break, steering racks leak badly, lower control arms/ ball joints, hydraulic lifters and valve springs are problems. Unless this car is piratically free or has had a fanatic owner, I would stay away. Don't get me wrong though, I love my 944 more than any car, and I've owned more than most, but I'm a mechanic...a real one, and these cars are a part time job if you own one with this kind of mileage.

How reliable is a 1987 mercedes benz 190 e with 243,000 miles on the engine ? how many additional years of transportation is still left in this car Thanks Tim Morse

At least 20 or more the MB's can get 1 million miles with proper preventive and corrective maintenance. When you see badges on the grill of a Benz thats from milage goals.

Poor gas milage

Check that your brakes aren't dragging (have them inspected), that the parking brake isn't partly on. Tires properly inflated? How's your air filter? Do the cheap, easy things first. Take the keys away from your teen-age son.

2002 Toyota Prius needs new transmission

Looking at the age of the vehicle - I would not invest $5000 in it.

Look in your local business pages for second-hand parts dealers, and get a quote for small garages to do the work of replacing it.

Chances are you will find a low-milage transmission for $250, and pay around $200 to have it installed - so for $450 you're good to go again.
If this was a younger vehicle, then yes I would go through dealerships to keep the logbook perfect; But at this age it's only 3 years off it's designed lifetime, and 10 year old vehicles are very low priced.
