2001 town & countyr.. wife slammed sliding drivrs side door.. will not open.. have the interior panle off, are there more than 1 latch?

  • hocking81 Feb 06, 2009

I have the same problem and cannot find a way to open the door. I have removed the entire panel and have tried pulling and pushing on every one of the cables, rods and parts that looks like it would have anything to do with unlocking the door. Have had zero success and the manuals really dont go into much detail as to how to repair this problem

First how hard did she slam it... second... is the seat belt jammed into the door... basically the only fix for that is to move the handle as tho you are opening it and put your shoulder into it

Passenger Sliding Door Won't latch close on 2001 Chrysler Town and Country Van AWD

you will need to remove the fuse for the power side doors and back. Disconnect the battery to reset the ECU and the doors should open and close manually just fine. There is a safety release on the gas filler port to prevent the door on that side from opening with the port is opened. Make sure the fuel filler cap door works properly, if the sliding door on that side is the one that won't open.

How do i get the door ajar light to go off

Check all the door switches. You may have one switch that is not making a good contact.

I slammed the side door really hard and now it won't open. Chrysler town and country 2001. Is there a do it myself fix for this?

have some one apply pressure on the inside of the door while you press the release handle. May be even a good bump will help as you have jammed the door lock in the latch

The van was hit on the back passenger side resulting in a dent . The open door light along with the interior lights flashed when I hit a bump. I hear something that sounds like a fan continuosly blowing....

I think this may be the "closer" motor continuously trying to gain a positive latch--and unable to do so. This could be from a damaged latch switch.

The sliding door has three motors, a slide motor, a release (or unlatch) motor, and a closer (or latching) motor. The open door light and interior lights coming on seem to indicate that the "closed and latched" switch is sometimes open-- allowing the closer motor to continue to operate.

Another possibility is that the dent has changed the geometry of the door mechanism especially the draw of the pull cable. The slide motor has a sensor that pulses when it runs. The door management controller counts the number of pulses of the slide motor sensor to determine when the door is fully closed and then stops the slide motor. At that point, the closer motor operates to latch the door. If the cable geometry has changed, the door controller may be shutting off the slide motor prematurely and the closer motor cannot complete the latch.

The handle broke off on my 2003 jeep grand cherokee laredo liftgate. how can i open it now? i can't find anything on the inside in the back and my tail light is out.

You will need to remove the interior panle from the loft gate to axess the latch
there is 4 screws along the bottom of the panle to remove then carfuly pull the panle away from the lift gate there is plastic clips that hold the panle to the gate these may need to be replaced when re installing the panle they can be purchased at the jeep dealer.
now look into the lift gate and you will see where the handle rod conects to the latch lift on this rod and the gate will open
to replace the handle remove the 2 10 mm bolts and disconect the rod from the latch install the new handle and rod to the latch install the 2 10 mm bolts. install the panle and 4 screws
this should cover it

1994 Chrys. Town and Country van, the display

a couple of things you try, 1 when this happens push in the back of the
door if it latches clean + lube the track + roller and be on your way
if not check the button on the door if ther is a nut at the base it may be
adjustable, loosen the nut gently about 2 full turns now try turning the
switch c clockwise 1/2 turn snug up the nut + try it if it works great
if not try another 1/2 turn you don't want to go to far at once or the button will break. now if it is not adjustable duct tape a quarter to the
contact point on the body if thats not enough raise it a quarter.
now these switch tips are based on my belief that you have tried the
button by hand and it works.
if you have any other ? you know where to find me. good luck

Sliding door fails to latch

There is no "switch". The Sliding Doors should be manual anytime you try to open or close them. If not: then there is problem in the electronic system or the physical/mechanical side where something is jamming the door from opening or closing.

Door Ajar light and interior lights always on.

the best lube to use for these latch assembleys is PB BLASTER available at your local parts store. spray each latch really good one at a time, then open and close door 10 to 15 times. trust me PB BLASTER takes care of this 90% of the time
