99 Mitsubishi battery drains

New battery, New Alternator, Alternator is charging battery (13.5v while running), but sitting overnight will almost drain the battery. Alternator fuse is good. I currently have ALL of the fuses removed and plan on installing them one at a time and monitoring voltage... anyone have a faster way to figure out which circuit could be draining the battery.

You have an electrical short issue. Check all your earthing connections to the vehicles body. Check the earthing to the engine and check for any damaged wiring causing to earth on the body. Check your sensors etc. Good luck!!

SOURCE: New Battery, new alternator, on

Most important when you replace the battery or alternator is to check the charging current to the battery. If not the RECTIFIER/REGULATOR IS FAULTY. You must check the alternator voltage to the rectifier/regulator and then the output which is the charging current in parallel to the battery.
There is a reverse voltage diode to prevent reverse flow to the alternator therby draining the battery.
So check this circuit and I hope this could be the fault.

Sounds like either the a/c relay is bad or a/c compressor clutch is not disengaging. Look on the compressor for an electrical connector, and if you can, unplug it. That should stop the battery drain. I would suggest taking the car into a good a/c shop to have the compressor looked at. The clutch can be replaced without having to buy a new compressor.

SOURCE: drainig battery

You have either a battery with a dead cell that must be replaced, or something is on and draining the battery. Check the under hood, trunk, glove box, brake, parking, and courtesy lights. Open the hood at night and remove the negative cable. When you touch it to the negative battery post if you see a fairly large spark, something is on or something is drawing power. If you see a very tiny spark that is normal as it is the radio & clock pulling power. Replace the battery.

easy test on alt start car loosen pos cable.then take off cable from batterie if alt is good it wont cut out.if it does, more than likely your alt. if the belt was the problem it would be noticeable by squealing and audible slipping.and most voltage regulators are built into the alternaters these day.

Battery keeps going dead overnight. I've already changed the alternator which tested to be bad and still having the same problem

if you installed a new battery as well as a new alternator, it should not go dead overnight. if you have a short in the vehicle that will drain a new battery that rapidly, the cable would have been melted already. although, dome lights do have a tendency to drain batteries, but not overnight. use a multimeter to check the battery voltage while the motor is running. it should read above 13 volts DC signifying that the alternator is indeed charging the battery.

Electrical problems, won't start in morning after sitting overnight, with boost it starts immediately

Have your battery load tested at auto parts store. Do it while still in the car. They can also check your alternator at the same time. It sounds like you either have a short that is draining the battery as it sits overnight or as your vehicle runs the battery has enough charge to run but not enough charge to last it UNTILL the next morning.

Mitsubishi Diamante 2002 - slow battery drain when not running.

This problem may be a drain or a bad battery or alternator.

The first thing to do before going on trying to find the system that is draining the battery would be to have the battery tested and charging system tested.

A weak battery will seem ok after the car is jumped or will barely start the car and the alternator will charge it even though the alternator is overworking due to weak battery and during the day or when car does not sit long it will seem ok. then when car sits overnight or a few days battery will weaken on its own, making it look like a drain,

so first step is battery test and alternator/charging system test.

Battery goes dead while car is sitting

It wouldn't be the starter. It will not draw current when not engaged. Could be a light left on, a trunk light, glove box light, under hood light-an unintended drain, somewhere. Sometimes a penny or something gets stuck in cigar lighter and keeps that circuit on.
You should check if alternator is fully charging up the battery after it has run, and then turned off. But if you don't have a voltmeter handy, try this: When you shut if off to sit overnight, take the negative battery terminal off the battery. When you get ready to start it, hook up the battery and see if battery is no longer weak. If battery is now good, you do have an unintended drain. If battery is weak again, check charging system, battery cables and connections, alternator connections-a loose connection will prevent battery from charging.
If you have a drain, turn everything off and remove key. Pull the bulb out for the underhood light. Take negative off battery again, and hook up a testlight between the negative battery cable terminal and the negative battery post. If something is pulling current, the testlight should be bright. Now at fuse panel under dash, pull fuses one at a time and watch the testlight. If you pull a fuse and the testlight goes off, that circuit has the unintended drain. Check everything on that circuit.
Hope you find the problem. Good luck.

2004 mitsubishi outlander won't start. Checked the coils and they are not recieving electricity.

If you fitted a new battery which drained overnight, that points towards a discharge somewhere in the electrical system. The battery charge is finding its way to earth somewhere.

One of the usual causes of battery discharge is a faulty alternator - the diodes in the rectifier pack (usually attached on the end of the alternator) burn out, allowing the current to run to earth.

Disconnect the wiring from the rear of the alternator and charge your battery and let it stand overnight, with the alternator wires disconnected.

If it starts ok in the morning, that's pointing towards a burnt out rectifier pack.

Other causes of battery drain - well - they can be caused by anything in the electrical system including the instrument cluster.

There will be sensors on the throttle body. Check the wiring on the sensors. If you're getting an error code that's suggesting you have a sensor problem.

If the engine cranks but doesn't fire - it's a sensor at fault, usually. Though it could also be due to a broken or corroded wire to one of the sensors/ECU.

If the engine doesn't crank that points towards an earthing problem. Check the battery cables for security and corrosion - particularly check the black earth cable where it attaches to the engine block.

Battery keeps going dead. Installed new Honda battery, checked charging rate while running, 14.5 volts and battery static voltage is 12.65. After sitting for one day, car won't start, lights but no sound,...

diode pack on the alternator is most likely suspect ,alternator will charge but drains to earth when not running ,pull the big terminal lead off and see if it goes flat overnight

Got new head gasket installed-not related to prob.after that bat.went dead, new bat and alt. still drains bat overnight. could it be a short in starter?

Check the main alternator fuse. It is either a block fuse in the fuse box under the hood or it is built into the positive battery terminal. If it is blown your battery will not charge even though everything else is in perfect working order and the alternator light(charge light) on the dash will not light up to tell you there is a problem. You will drive a short distance and the battery will go dead. After recharging it will start right up run OK till it runs out of juice again and dies, etc. Find the fuse and check it is not blown. It is a frustratingly simple fix to a hard to diagnose problem.
