I have had issues before with the car not starting but turned out to be loose wiring. Yesterday I hit a bumb in the road and the engine light come on for a few seconds and the car attempted to stall but continued to run, this happened twice on the way home. I went out later that night, stopped at the traffic lights and the car stopped but turned over straight away. I have gone out this morning to take a look and found after revving the car it nearly stalls every time, I can also hear a whistling coming from the engine bay but cannot track it down yet (seems to be from the back of the bay). Does anybody have any idea where I could start, I have read around but not definite answer has been found.

Try changing your MAP SEnsor. I had the same problem on my acclaim

sound like to me you have a clogged catalytic converter

I had the same problem with my dodge neon. Its your transmission slipping. My car had to have all the transmission flushed and it helped alot, but the longer you let it go, the damage could be permanent.

Have the battery and alt tested for free at the local parts store.
Tell them what it's doing, and start suspecting a fuel issue.
Could be getting the right amount of fuel but not burning it. (plugs, wires, coil)
Or could not be getting enough fuel.
Still hard to say, so get the charging/power system checked first.
Let me know what you find out as I'm real curious now.
Same happened to a friend and it was the fuel pump....
Same for another friend and it was 2 bad coil packs.
