Could be the switch under your foot pedal. They gunk up over time.

SOURCE: 95 k1500 tail lamps dont work. turn signal and

test the wires to see if power reaches the tail light, connect a test light to the wire and the chassis, if there is power present on the wire for the tail light the problem is the bulb or the tail light unit, but if there isnt any power you have to backtrace the wire to locate the problem, probably a broken or loose wire

SOURCE: rear brake lights wont work

Usually when both lights fail it is due to a poor ground wire attached to the chassis of the vehicle. This is done to save wiring and would most likely explain why the other
lights still work. Hope this is useful.

SOURCE: Brake lights don't work but third brake light does

I believe the flashers are on a different circute. It sounds like a bad ground.....or one of your taillight sockets is bad. I have a cavilier that had the same problem. I went to a junk yard and found some light socket s and swopped them. So far it has been working. The third light has its own ground. tail light sockets need to have a good ground, some times the ground from batt. to block, ground frome block to frame can be bad.
Think "ground"
Don't try and buy new sockets , unless they are just like the fasctory sockets. getting the entire tail light works good. Find the main tail light, the juce comes to it first, then passes to other side. Check that dide frst. work your wat over to other side, if u cant find a problem, work your way to the front and find out where the lights are grounded.
good luck
Doug

Do you have power going into the turn signal switch from the brake switch, and then coming out to go to the lights ?

Brake Lights don't work on the back of our 2003 Ford Windstar

Did you actually check the brake light switch for power in and out ?
There are two different fuses, one for each side. And the circuit includes the turn signal switch.
The third brake light bypasses the turn signals.

My tail lights work but my brakes lights don't

You actually have two different circuits, one for each.
The bulbs should have two filaments inside.
Depending on the make model and year, you should have a fuse and the brake switch, plus the circuit goes thru the turn signal switch.

1995 dodge ram 2500 third brake light works but the rear brake lights don't work

The circuit goes from the brake light switch thru the turn signal switch and uses the same bulbs as the rear turn signals. I would check for power in and out of that switch next.

On my z71 1996 model rear bake lights don't work but the third light works, could it be the brake switch ?

No, it is not the brake lamp switch. If the brake lamp switch was not working, the high mount (3rd) brake lamp would also not function.
Chevrolet trucks are notorious for bad tail lamp circuit boards.

Disconnect the electrical connector from the circuit boards. Check for power at the circuit board connector (with the brake pedal depressed) on each side. The brake/turn lamp circuit for the left side is the YELLOW wire. The brake/turn lamp circuit for the right side is the GREEN wire. If there is power at the connector, check the GROUND (BLACK wires) to make sure they are getting a good ground. If the power and ground circuits are OK at the connector, replace the circuit boards.

NOTE: DORMAN makes a kit that includes circuit boards for both sides it is DORMAN Part Number 70001

If there is no power on the YELLOW and GREEN wires at the circuit board connectors, the most likely cause would be a defective turn signal switch.

Fthe tail light works but the brake light doesn't work, it probably is the module that has a circuit board. I have replaced it 2 or 3 times on my 2004 XL Envoy ... can I get a part number and location...

First let's determine which brake lights are not working. Does the high mounted brake light work? Do both left and right brake light not work? If none of the brake light work, the problem could be the brake light switch at the brake pedal OR fuse #12 in the underhood fuse panel.
If only the bake lights at the corner lamp assembly don't work, check fuse #34 in the rear fuse panel.
The module your are referring to is the circuit board located in each of the corner lamp assemblies, check on website www.compnine.com for the part number of this item. I don't believe this is your problem though.

Two of my break lights do not work. The one on the trunk works. I changed the bulbs and checked the fuse and they are fine. What else could it be. Someone said the break light switch. I bought one but do...

I don't know if this will solve your problem, but it might help. I had an early model Toyota Tarago, with brake lights that seemed to work when they felt like it. I cleaned out the dust around the globes in the holders, but the only thing that worked was to place a match in the holder, so that the globe was held firmly. No more problems. Obviously, if I could have afforded new holders, that would have solved it also.

Third brake light on 1988 Toytota Tercel Liftback

I never had a Toyota but if you can change the bulb you should be able to check for voltage. Check voltage at bulb connection and work back from there to find were voltage is lost. If voltage goes into the third light but no voltage at socket it gives you some info on where to look. I had one which had a circuit board which the light plugged into. I had to change the board.

One of two things cause this corroded or poor chassis earth at the bulb holders or the circuit board that holds the bulb is faulty.
