2004 Interceptor, will replacing the heads fix?

Hi,

2004 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor.....4.6L engine.

I have a misfire in cylinder #1 and spark plug is covered in oil. Are the piston rings fried? Will replacing the heads fix the problem?

Thanks so much.

But the thing is, replacing the Piston Rings will take forever and I don't have the tools. I have to take a chance that the oil getting on the plugs is because of bad valve stem seals in the cylinder heads. This is why I was going to take a chance and just put new heads on it. Because the heads I get should have good valve seals. If the Piston Rings are bad, wouldn't I have many more problem then just some oil getting on a plug? Won't I be able to figure it out when I take the heads off? I mean, if I take the heads off and there is oil on top off the Pistons.....wouldn't that mean the Piston Rings are bad? But is there is no oil on the Pistons, wouldn't that mean the Piston Rings are good?

And yes, you're right.......I shouldn't skimp on getting the heads machined.

Sure thing........no problem. I just gave ya 3 "FixYa's" in like the last 5 minutes. Thanks for answering all those questions.

I'll just wait til the heads are off to decide on the Piston Rings. Please PRAY that there's no oil on top of those DARN Pistons.

Oil is leaking into the gasket, causing one of the spark plugs to misfire. I have replaced the spark plugs, but fuel lines over the gasket prevent me from replacing it. How do I go about fixing this? ...

This is caused by a defective cylinder head cam cover gasket, this allows oil to leak into and fill the well the spark plug is in and short out the cylinder, replace the cam cover gasket.

I wouldn't worry about the 02 code it will clear when you replace the coils. to be positive that the coils are bad, swap them with another cylinder and see if that cylinder misfires. 90% of the time it's the coil. Let me know

Cylinder 4 misfire on a 2000 crown victoria interceptor

first cylinder 4 is the last on the passenger side . first pull the coil out and check if there is water where the plug is. if there is take the water out and dry up the coil. if you find water you got a crack manifold or a bad intake manifold gasket. if there is no water replace the coil. good luck
