Go to the VW Vortex site, or VWFixx, or RussTech and stroll around the forums. Find someone near you with a Vag-Com and get the codes. Or go to AutoZone and get the codes.

I've got a 2001 1.8T New Beetle and I am alwasy getting codes. Have repaired and replaced, repaired and replaced, a number of things. O2 sensors, hoses, valves, sensors, etc, etc., and couldn't do any of it without the VagCom.

Bottom line to help is codes, we need codes.

Try a Auto Zone in your area,They will run the code for you and give you a printout that will tell you exacty what it is,,,,and its free, This way you can be sure,Dealerships like keeping you guessing so they make money off every wrong guess,Ouch! for your wallet.Your jetta is old enough for the cam sensor to be bad,not a hard fix,,,but if the sensor has scraches on it from the cam rubbing on it that means your cam it hiting it,,but than again You might have over head cams, and than its just a malfuctuing cam sensor and its again a easy fix ,,,,first find out what it is than locate it and than remove and replace.

Exactly same prob.

99% of the time we mechanics tend to trust computer of what it tells us when it come to engine diagnostic; i hate to not agree with VW mech which he pull the code and state is knock sensor although I have ran into computer spit out many wrong code and still does not fix the problem however I go ahead and replace it any way. Now if that does not fix the issue after replacing with new parts, I then would go back and plug computer back in to see what other code it would spit out. my opinion, I would also have your air-mass flow sensor check, some people don't realized throttle control/airmass flow sensor also link into the ECU compute between the revolution sensor of the transmission telling computer is time to shift. faulty air-mass sensor can also cause it to bogs or not picking up speed giving a false sense the transmission is not working correctly. you can go to auto zone and use their computer for free if you need to re-pull the code after replacing the knock sensor.

I have a 2006 Dodge Durango. At 27,000 miles, it started stalling in traffic and the dealer replaced several sensors. The cam sensor was the last one to be replaced. Now at 72,000 miles, it has began to...

if there is a knocking sound the computer will start retarding the timing to get rid of engine knock thru the knock sensor. Make sure you are using the correct grade of fuel. it will be listed in your owners manual. the improper grade of fuel can cause detonation in your engine. giving a knocking sound. if the change in fuel doesn't help you may be looking at mechanical repairs. hope this helps. mike

Oil usage in 2006 passat 2.0 turbo

I had the same problem with my wife's 2006 passat turbo. We lost 2.5 quarts in 3000 miles and the warning light came on. They put us on a 1000 mile oil test and I lost 1.8 more quarts of oil. They finally agreed to replace the rings. Service tech told me that the factory rings are defective, they begin to lead after about 25,000.

Transmission won't shift fron 1st, 2nd or 3rd correctly!

I'm no expert but it sounds as if you might have some moisture (water) contaminating your tranny fluid. I'd first try having it drained, flushed and refilled with fresh fluid. Preferably after it has been warmed to room temperature - -2 brrr.
