1998 hyundai lantra auto gearbox O/K without overdrive off but when overdrive on it slip's, reeves up then goes into overdrive.

hi there! i was a master tech 4 hyundai, first of all has the atf fluid been changed and at the correct level. or have you had the multifuntion switch checked? please feel free to contact myself and i will advise you as required with my exsperience

You can actually do it from the top if it is similar to a 2001 Elantra??? On your right center of the tranny, there should be two big bolts I believe a 17mm one on the bottom left the other top right of the other. The bottom left is the drain plug the top right is where you fill it. If you want to make things easier you can remove the air cleaner and the air cleaner housing then unscrew the sensor on top of the tranny you can poor it in from the top. You will need to then unscrew the fill hole (Top right bolt) Pour the lube in to the hole where you had taken out the sensor until it pours out of the fill hole. Sounds like more work but by doing this you will avoid making a mess trying to fit the squeeze bottle into the tiny hole. Hope this makes Sense????

Sounds to me like u have a faulty ( pulse generator sensor) u can find it at a dealership for less than 80 dlls. it can be easly replace by anyone its : a 1 plug conector wire that divides into 2 sensors like a ( Y ) ull find it under the air filter right on top of the transmission just follow the wire and ull find the second sensor under the transmision, once replaced, i let the key to on position for 15 min to reset the computer ,and ur good to go..car runs like new again..hope this helps ... my 2000 elantra (2.0) had same prob., got a throttle position sensor (side of throttle body) from junk yard and fixed the prob. But yours could be diff. cuz it's a 98
