That is actually OC meaning there is an open circuit in the system some where, with out a signal generator at home to test the system, you are on a guessing mission, i would try a outside/ambient air temp sensor first, cheapest and easy to do it on the in front behind the grille on the pass side of the radiator , if this is not it it could be a wiring issue or it needs a new mirror which you have to calibrate the compass in after replacement

I would suspect the outise air temp sensor is defective, replace it. It is located in front of the AC condensor core.

My internal thermometer shows eratic temperatures as I am driving the car. Why? How do I fix it? Can this be a problem for my cars performance?

> internal thermometer
Do you mean coolant/engine temperature or ambient air temp? If you mean the engine's operating temperature, then the temperature sensor is failing. This won't bother operation but you will also have no monitoring of operating temp in case something is awry with the engine.
Such sensors are fairly common failures and not terribly expensive to replace.

Thermometer not reading correctly

I would guess the outside thermometer has lost its calibration.
Does it seem consistently 5, 10 or 20 degrees off all the time?
Let me know.

I cant figure out how to change my thermometer back from celcius to fahrenheit

Make sure that the odometer is set to miles and not kilometers. Hold the button down (while in the regular odometer setting, not the "trip odometer" setting) until it changes to miles. The temperature display will automatically change to fahrenheit. We just figured this out today.
