The car must be turned over at least 3 or 5 times. Since it has turned cold it won't start. We can spray starter fluid into the air filter and it starts. We have replaced the fuel pump, filter etc. After it is started, it will run and restart. it's after it sits that it will not restart.
You need to make sure of two things number one you need to make sure that you are getting the adequate fuel pressure from your fuel pump you need to see it with your own eyes to make sure can some people can put fuel pumps on the fuel pumps can be bad they didn't verify the pressure so your pressure needs to be verified from you feel side now is your engine side you need to make sure that you're getting the correct voltage 14.5 volts note to start your car if you don't check those two things and get this kind of going on a whim you know that's a good start for you

My car was having the problem I had my ingnition switch change, stater and a new battery and now it's fine.

There was a common issue on these vehicles involving the ground from the transmission. The negative battery cable bolts to the transmission. Over time the mating surface of the trans to the engine will corrode causing a voltage drop between the engine and trans. This throws off the 180 signal from the crank sensor and the car will do exaclty what you are describing. The absolute best fix for this is to remove the trans, clean the mating surface on the engine block and the trans, chase the trans mounting bolt threads in the engine block and bolts, apply some dielectric grease to the mounting surfaces and reinstall transmission. I know this is a big job, but many have tried to short cut it with no better results.

Turn key forward listen for the fuel pump to pressurize if you don't here anything then your fuel pump needs replaced and it's in the tank.
SOURCE: 98 gmc jimmy would not start cold unless i spray starting fluid
THOSE VEHICLES HAVE A HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP THAT WILL ONLY START IF IT REACHES 60 PSI OR MORE.. BUT ONCE IT IS RUNNING REQUIRES LESS PRESSURE.... MAKE SURE THE FUEL PRESSURE WHEN STARTING EXCEEDS 60 PSI OR IT WILL NOT START...

Try spraying an aerosol oil around the intake manifold and around any vacuum lines and connections with the engine running. If you hear a change in the engine speed than you've got a vacuum leak. Thank you, Dana

I have spent way too much $ on my 1992 Maxima trying to fix a fuel problem. Overheard that the fuel pump relay or relay switch ($12 to $38) may need to be replaced. I had the fuel pump replaced (600+, the Mass Air Flow sensor replaced $700+; both expensive and did nothing. It the car will restart after a while then this is piece to look at. I have the same problem with my 99 Maxima. Replaced the usual suspects; air filter, pvc, fue filter, spark plugs, and still just cranks but won't start. I will try replacing the fuel pump relay, as JamaicaJoe recommends and let you all know if that worked. I do have a suspicion that it is jut this bitter cold weather that is causing the problems (global warming - right Al Gore?), but that's just a hunch. Talk to ya later.
