SOURCE: 92 Jeep Cherokee losing power up hills / EVAP failure

Running out of power going up a hill is generally the fuel pump. Now days a plugged catalytic converter will do it also. The fuel evaporation test could be a bad gas cap or evaporation canister or hose somewhere. The exhaust manifold is a jeep thing, expansion and contraction, hot cold over and over. Have it welded or replaced.

SOURCE: 1993 Grand Jeep Cherokee has fluctuating High emissions

everthing effects the reading. pedal position, rpm load engine temp. air temp. all that stuff you added was just a waste of time and money. What you should of done wa diagnosed it correctly so your not cheating an emission test. Since barley failed the first time I would of recommended a tunup if not done in 40,000 miles. I would have looked at the scanner data to see if the inputs were correct. Iwould have serviced the oil if its been awhile. If everything checked out i would of recommended a catalytic converter. But there are 3 test to determine if the cat is dead we do first. If your car was barley failing and you needed a tunup and the cat was still good the need for a tuneup could toast the cat within a couple weeks.

Testimonial: "Assessment was correct. Needed the catalytic converter replaced."

SOURCE: Jeep comes up with EVAP Emission Control System code- please help

YES A CAP FROM THE DEALER WILL MOST LIKELY SOLVE THIS ISSUE...SOME OF THE AFTERMARKET CAPS ARE NOT MADE TO THE PROPER SPECS TO MAINTAIN PROPER PRESSURE/VACUUM ON THE SYSTEM WHEN THE EVAP TEST BY THE COMPUTER OCCURS

Testimonial: "Thank you- I'll try that."

Where is the fuel vapor re-circulation tube 06 dodge ram 1500

you failed the EVAP test.
and like all cars in USA tested for smog , that is a hard failure
and must be corrected by law here.(to pass)
what stop you,I've no clue.
most evap versions 1 to 6 USA
are 3 valves and some tubes
if the tech found a broke tube, then that tube is NO GOOD. period
most times EVAP fails are bad gas cap or not tight , 99% are.
you did not post the DTC error so answers run hard.

Pass smog test

change your oil and oil filter. Add a bottle of octane boost to the fuel tank then top off with fuel. Drive vehicle for about twenty minutes then have emissions tested. Unless you have a bad catalytic converter, you should pass emissions.

Code 442-455 replace all hoses coming from the fuel tank, fuel filter and the and some othr that were craked also replaced the gas cap.

old posts.
wow, no year car stated. not that makes this hard....

wow2, no engine option stated,either. trike 2.
did you forget to use the scan tool an RESET the PCM.?
evap failure !
fuel tank , vent failures.
the FSM covers the tests. in detail.

you use pressure tests. we use shop air, and a low pressure regulator (laws in some states require mech to use nitrogen tanks)
we pressurize the vent system. and make sure it works right.
the tests are easy, here.
i most smog stations we do that at the fuel tank filler neck with a cap
adapter to the pressure leak down tester.

Most smog today are from this system failing, that is why each year
the system is more complex.
EVAP 1 ,2, 3, ETC.

there are 3 classes of failure
  1. wont hold pressure (even a bad cap does that)
  2. the solenoid valves bad. stuck etc.
  3. the tests parts are bad, there are parts of this system just to do the test and they too can fail.
all 3 ways and tests are covered in the FSM.
ever seen one, the factory service manual under EVAP chapters.

the PCM does not ever know why or what is bad, it only knows the EVAP monitors failed, nothing more,
a tech, does the EVAP tests by the book and finds , truth.

ill guess year, 2000
read the emissions page here

My 2001 vw jetta wont pass smog, failed on emissions part..check engine light is on for multiple things do I need to fix all to get car to pass smog? Fuel injectors and O2 sensor.

ALWAYS PERFORM TESTS AND REPAIRS ON THE FIRST DTC AND RETEST AFTER EACH STEP.ONE SENSOR OR COMPONENT FAILURE CAN CAUSE OTHERS TO FAIL AS A RESULT.MEANING THE FIRST CODE COULD HAVE CAUSED THE OTHER CODES TO CYCLE.SO ALWAYS DIAG THE FIRST CODE STORED AND EACH ONE AFTER AS THEY WERE READ DURING THE SCAN

My 1999 kia sephia wont pass smog test

You will need to get it scanned and get the codes for the problem. If it failed the test due to emissions I would almost guarantee it will be your oxygen sensor or cat

Failed smog test

Most modern vehicles have 2 catalytic converters, there may be one located at the exhaust manifold, or be what's called a resonator. The resonator will look almost like a cherry bomb muffler, this is a crucial part of exhaust emissions.

My 2007 Chevy Avalanche failed the emission test with the code of P0455 what is the problem?

It is probably the evap vent valve. A new vent solenoid valve has been redesigned to correct the problem you are having. I would recommend purchasing the dealer component.
I hope this helps.

Evap Sys Monitor

if evap is the only monitor that hasn't set yet, the car should still pass, a car is allowed to have 1 monitor that isn't set and still pass as long as the check engine light isn't on. take it in for the emissions, it should pass.
