Over revs and wont start

Hi im a 23year old mother of one and have a nissan sentra 4 door wagon 1988 my car started to over rev, if just on it would rev at 2.5 sometimes 3 thousand revs, the battery light came on so we replaced the battery car was great for day then started reving again then just stoped now the car turns on but wont turn over and start, sounds like a dead battery but can be jump started and will run but when tured off it wont start.
would the over reving and battery light on be an indacator that the carbirator needs replacing???

Ok you seem to have 2 different problem the fast idle is on situation that may be due to a bad idle speed control that needs to be replaced. You mentioned that the battery light came on, this means that there is a problem with the charging system. You have a bad alternator and that why the battery keeps on going BAD/dead. The alternator replenished the battery power when vehicle is running/driving and when it not work the battery will go dead. I recommend that you have the charging system check, can be done by yourself or you can have an AUTO ZONE check the system for FREE. To check yourself you will need a volt meter, connected meter to battery terminal you should have approximately 12+volts with engine off. With car running you should have approximately 14volts. If you have 14+ volts with car running the alternator is good if NOt it needs to be replaced. Good Luck and contact if you need more help. Thanks for using FIX YA

Have 1987 nissan sentra wagon 1.6 carb.engine the problem is an idle problem when I start in the morning or when its had time to cool down I depress the accelorator pedel to set the choke and high idle cam...

Check your Ignition timing before anything
check your plugs see what color they are
red or orange means carb is to lean , black
or oil means to rich then you can go from there
and set mixture screws on carb , let me no how you make out .
