New Battery and alternator. The Battery light comes on and flickers when car is running.

Replaced both Battery and Alternator. Car ran great for about 4 or 5 days. Drove it for around 55 miles, parked, started up again about 5 hours later. Ran fine, then died on me in slow traffic. Had to have it pulled to the shoulder. Without car running, it can't be shifted into neutral. Had to charge battery before it would start again. Alternator is correctly installed and there are new terminal ends on the cables. Can't find anything loose or disconnected. After the battery is charged, starting is fine, but the Battery light flickers from bright to very dim and fluctuates. HELP!!!

SOURCE: car will not start

It is most likely your alternator, Your alternator is responsible for charging your battery, Which if your battery is fine, is the likely cause of your issue, HOWEVER, Be sure to check your battery cables for damage, Make sure the clamps are tightly connected to your battery, If they have corrosion (White fluffy stuff) on them, Take them off and clean them (BLACK (Negative) First, Then take the RED (Positive) off and clean that too, Then put them back on in the reverse order.) with a stiff wire brush, Also be sure to clean the terminals on the battery.

These are all signs of a bad alternator. The car is running off of only the battery. The alternator charges the battery and keeps the car running. When the alternator quits charging the car will run fine until the battery dies. Then you can jump the battery and charge it, and the car will run fine until all of the electronics and lights run the battery down again.

It sounds like the Alternator is actually bad.
One great way to determine this:
Recharge the new battery with a trickle charge overnight. Make sure use remove the wires going to the Battery before recharging.
Replace the Battery Wires.
Get the Vehicle Started.
When it has Started: Leave it Running and Disconnect and Remove the Negative side of the Battery. If the Vehicle dies, it is the Alternator that is bad, and needs to be replaced..
The Battery starts that vehicle, and provides nominal power to certain accessories. The Alternator actual Runs the Engine and Recharges the Battery with a low trickled charge.

Battery light flickers

I would have the charging system tested. If the battery test bad check your warranty, many major brands have a free replacement period. The red battery light coming on when the engine is running often means the alternator is not putting out enough volts.

Flickering Lights

You do need an alternator. Nissan has a campaign on Maxima alternator in certain years such as 96-98 I believe. Go to your friendly Nissan dealer abd have them punch your VIN number into the NNA net. they will know and that will tell them if your vehicle applies by the VIN. I have seen the alternator on fire. There was fire inside of the alternator. Have it checked or the car can catch on fire.
