Question about 2003 Chevrolet Impala

Traction system light and abs light

2003 impala, tons of snow build up. i cleaned it off as well as i could but my abs and service traction lights keep comming on, although it is not constantly just most of the time. at this point both traction and abs shut down. there is still a lot of snow under the car. there were to explanations on the other page, so i was wondering what would be the most likely fix or is there another explanation, like to much **** underneeth the car?
thank you

I have a 2003 chevy impala. the other day when the roads were very slippery after a light snowfall, my "ABS" lite and "Traction Off" lights came on. They come on most of the time, but re-set when car is turned off & re-started. It has been stored inside a heated garage for a couple of months and this problem started that first nite i drove it when roads wrer slippery. I did drive it a few hrs prior to the icy roads with no problems. This all came about as i lost traction that one time. What could be the cause? And how do i fix it?

Traction control systems measure wheel speed differences by various methods to determine if one wheel is rotating faster than the other. A heavier buildup of ice/snow could be affecting wheel rotation speed causing the TCS to engage. ABS works by sensing slippage at the wheels during braking, and continually adjusting braking pressure to ensure maximum contact between the tires and the road. Suggest clearing out the wheel wells now and periodically throughout the winter. Also remove ice/snow build up between the wheel and the brake pads/rotor.

where do you hear moaning sound coming from ? Under the hood in engine bay ? That could be the ABS pump motor ! maybe going bad . service traction control light on ? DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code or codes stored . Have codes checked .

Have a 2004 Chevy Impala recently purchased used.

sounds like you have a wheel hub out causing the lights to come on. odds are it would be the front left. it's not sensing right causing the traction control to be turned on. or it could be a loose wire for that hub. gm cars has had a problem with these two issues.

Service traction system

Are the tires the same size all the way around?? The other thing that this could be is a bad wheel sensor, Go to Auto Zone and have them scan the car'e ECM for DTC codes. That would make things easier to see if it's the wheel sensors or the traction control module. Check all the fuses too, if the car had ABS problems and was disabled the traction control light will come on too. God luck and keep me posted, be glad to help

2003 Chevy Impala Service Traction Sytem show on Dash

I can't answer the question about the gas fumes, but I had the same problem last year with the "Service Traction Sysytem" message and the Trac and ABS lights coming on in my Impala. Mine turned out to be because of a bad wheel bearing, that was causing the ABS and traction system not to work. I'm not sure if you've experienced this, but another thing that would happen with mine was that I would go to brake and have a hard time depressing the brake pedal, almost like it was pushing back. That is the point when the Trac and ABS lights came on.

most of the time it is a wheel bearing going out you should have it scanned to be sure. If it is a bearing the scan will also tell you the witch side the bearing is out.
