My '99 F-150 wont start I replaced the starter, solenoid, battery terminals, and my battery is one year old I checked the voltage on battery it reads 12.5v I still hear a click coming from the starter and thud coming from the fuse box what can it be, I switched relays and still wont start

    First turn the engine over by hand. You usually can do this by grabbing the belt and pulling on it or by putting a socket and ratchet on the front of the crankshaft. Make sure the crankshaft turns. If the engine does not turn then your engine is seized (not good) If the engine turns check the battery voltage at the battery while you are trying to crank it. It should be no less then 9 volts. If that checks out do the same but hook the positive lead of your meter to the big positive starter wire at the starter. The voltage should be very close to the voltage from the first test. If that fails your looking at the start cable or relay. You can do the same test on either side of the relay to figure out where your problem is. Next you can check for voltage drop on the ground cable. Hook one end of your voltage tester to the negative battery terminal. Next hook up the other end to the other end of the negative cable or the engine block. Try to crank the engine while watching the voltage reading. It should not read more than 1 volt. If it does replace the ground cable. If everything checks out then you have another bad starter

It has two solenoid I think. Check all your connections again. Tug on the wires to make sure they won't pullout of the connections.

I have a 1998 ford escort had the same problems in the past, fix that alternator and then it went out again. It came to be the solenoid that mad the alternator go bad. Don't know if that will help but it's something to look into.

Even though I bought the vehicle new, there was an aftermarket security system installed. The system had a bad diode, so i removed the system and reconnected the factory wires.

Check all fuses and fusible links, most likely one blew when the lead touched

SOURCE: starter/solenoid prob?

Replace the MAF sensor. The starter is overheating due to cranking excessively. It has noyhing to do with the engine staying running. The MAF sensor is located as the first sensor out of air cleaner. It controls the fuel. Good luck and have a safe trip.

07 malibu wont start, not turning over

Check your battery terminals and battery.
If the terminals are corroded or loose then this will happen.
If need be, remove the terminals from the battery and clean thoroughly both terminals and terminal clamps. Fit them back on and tighten.
Try starting the car, if it starts and all is good, spread vasoline, or some grease over the terminals to prevent it from corroding. If it doesn’t start then the battery will need replacing. If you have a multi meter check the voltage first. Anything under 11.5 volts will not start this car.

I have a 2004 Saturn vue...I replaced starter last year...but about a week ago I had to turn the key on and off multiple times and then finally starts...now it wont start...battery is good startergood

It's possibly the ignition switch or the battery cable going to the starter . Would need to do some testing to say for sure . Can you do electrical testing ? Have someone turn the key to the start position and someone check for B+ voltage at the S terminal on the starter solenoid . If B+ voltage is there , voltage drop test the starter circuit . My Ford Explorer wont start

need good 12 volts 11 volts starter turn engine over slow then starter solenoid start clicking.the pull in and hold in windings in solenoid wont have enough power to hold in engage starter drive pinion.have battery charged and load tested.make alternator keeping battery charged.if battery over 5 years old time to replace.

Starter wont engage after replacing dead battery

Check power to starter motor solenoid, solenoid operation and starter motor voltage during cranking. If the starter motor is receiving power from the solenoid, but isn't cranking, then replace the starter motor.

Also check the condition of battery terminals, wiring and connections. Also check the earth wire from the body to the engine.

I just bought a new battery and now my car wont start. It turns over sometimes and then others no. I started it and made it home. But now it wont start again.??

Your problem may not have been the battery at all, but corroded connections somewhere between the battery and the starter.
Disconnect the negative battery terminal (always) first, then the positive. Inspect the cables at the battery clamps and make sure they are not corroded away under the insulation by flexing them close to the clamps. If they bend easily, you need new cables.
If those appear to be OK, follow the positive (red) cable down to the starter or solenoid terminal, remove and clean this.
Follow the negative (black) cable to its other end (could be chassis or engine block), remove and clean this too.
If the starter still isn't responsive, the starter (or solenoid if separate) may have failed.
Whether external or internal, the solenoid has to handle 100-150 amperes which caused the heavy copper contacts to eventually arc themselves to death, often by becoming intermittent at first, then not contacting enough to supply current to the starter.
If the starter has a hump on its side, this is the solenoid and is replaced with the starter. Some vehicles use an external solenoid (this is just a very beefy relay) and you may have found it while cleaning connectors.
When RE-connecting the battery, always connect the negative terminal last.

Battery is good but car is dead and wont turn over

Do you get a 'click' when the key is turned? If not, use a meter or test light to see if you get voltage across the battery terminals during a start attempt. You should see voltage at all times. If not, remove the connectors, clean the posts and terminal insides, then reinstall. If 'yes' to the first question, then check for voltage at the starter solenoid terminal where the battery cable attaches--it should be present at all times. If ok, then move the test probe to the starter terminal and try for start. If voltage is present when try for start, then the starter motor is defective. If no voltage appears, then the starter solenoid is defective. Hope this helps!

Car wont start, makes a clicking sound under the hood

When you turn the ignition key to the start position you apply 12 volts to the solenoid. The solenoid is a relay switch that closes when you turn the key to the start position. When it closes It applies 12 volts to the starter motor.The starter motor draws a lot of electrical current, (so much so that they could not run that current thru the ignition switch, so they use the solenoid) What you hear clicking is the solenoid closing, or trying to close.I assume that "*****clicking" as you define it is a chatter rather then one click.

Possible causes: A low battery voltage. Has the battery been replaced in the last few
years few years. Try charging over night and see what happens
Bad connections on the battery terminals. Check for any white powder on and around the battery terminal. Use baking soda and water to clean the terminals (it'll fizz) then clean theem with a terminal brush. You can get one at any auto store
Bad connection on the starter solenoid
If it a manual shift, there is usually a kill switch somewhere on the shift mechanism
that prevents the starter from working if the car is in gear and the clutch is out
In automatic shifter the kill switch is in the shift selector mechanism so you can't start the car unless you are in park.

CAR WONT START ON FORD FALCON AU (AUTO)

Check the voltage on your battery. When the battery is low, you will still have lights and what not but not enough juice to start the car. Check the condition of your battery cables especially your ground. If everything check out fine, your problem may be a bad starter or the solenoid. If you replace the starter, replace the solenoid with it. Be sure to check the cable from the starter solenoid to the starter.
