With mass air flow sensor unpluged will start and can rev up put in gear dies plug back in it dies. have changed, fuel pump, fuel filter mass air flow meter, computer, power relay, distubutor, relay's, when this first started to be problem;on hot day would lose power and stop let cool off would start again and it was not vapor locked.
There is a switch in the airflow meter that keeps the fuel pump relay closed as long as there is airflow. With the meter unplugged, the pump should not run except when the key is turned to start. It would seem to me that you have a wiring issue. Try jumping the fuel pump relay so the pump runs whenever the key is on. (Remove the relay and jump the pump wire to the accessory wire--see top left diagram.) This defeats the safety feature but will keep the pump running.
Replace the MAF

Your problem very well maybe that the new inline fuel pump that you put in does not supply sufficent fuel pressure to let it run... so to solve it i know it is expensive but you will probally have to put a tank fuel pump in.
SOURCE: starts then dies out
try and start truck and once started let key come back a little bit and let me know if it stays running

Try cleaning the throttle body.Check the air-gap for the pick-up coil inside the distributor assembly(use a brass feeler gauge)
Check valve clearances if needed(possible tight intake valve adj.)
Check base timing(follow instr. via under hood label)
Hope this helps.
have you pulled codes or checked the fuel pressure? It could be a host of things, like a clogged air filter restricting the flow of air into the engine, a bad air meter, clogged injectors, etc. Engine codes will help you start narrowing things down.
Has the engine air filter ever been changed?
