My front left ABS sensor cable fell down onto my outside axle boot and shredded both the cable and the boot. Now my ABS light is on and my 4WD won't engage (the light just flashes). Is this a safety override sort of thing - no ABS = no 4WD? Or do I have two separate problems that occurred simultaneously?
I already know I'm going to have to install a new axle, should I look at other components of the 4WD system at the same time?
The ABS and the AWD are interconnected, if the sensor cable is damaged then there is no signal for the AWD sytem to operate from.
Also the ABS,,it wont work properly either,,,the repair is not costly, get it fixed.

The 98 Passport has a "shift on the fly" 4WD system. It can only be manually engaged by a button on the dash. Axle lock-in occurs via a vacuum shift motor mounted on the front differential.
Does that still work the same as AWD when it comes to the ABS?
