This 1997 Saturn CL2 is not shifting correctly. I had just put a used transmission from a SL2 also a 1997. Installation went fine. All wires are connected. Is this units shifting controlled electronicly? And can it be another shift control electronic issue? The shift position indicator module was removed from the old trans that was originally in the car. Could it be that it isn't positioned correctly? Would that cause it to shift fine in first and then shift to second and then immediately slip back into first again? Is this transmission already blown? Give me a hand here!

I'm sorry but there is no kick down "cable"! It is an electronic transmission. And the problem is that it IS kicking down. When it's not supposed to. In an older trans of the 1980's and some early (very early) 90's a kick down "Cable" may be an actual part of the assembly, but hasen't been that way for a long time now. Thanks for trying.
I found the final solution to this transmission malfunction. It turns out the ECM is not compatible with the transmission that I installed from another saturn with a single overhead cam. This one has a dual overhead cam and apparently the gearing in this trans. is different on the dual overhead cam model. I may be able to swap the ECM's and have a possibility it will run the other engine. In theory, it should! The sensors and injection/ignition systems are almost entirely identical. I'll keep it up to dat in case anyone should run in to this same issue.
i did the same thing with the same engines and have the same issue and i know the tranny was good before i put it in i drove the single overhead cam one for months before putting it in the dual cam engine. did the ecm fix your problem?
i have the same problem right now on a 01 SC2. the engine is a DOHC, and the transaxle must have been from a SOHC. Has anyone tried the engine control module switch to see if indeed it would work?????
