I have a 2001 chev truck 2500 HD with the duramax diesel engine I can not find the plug to plug into power to keep the glow plugs warm and it fails to start this morning due to the weather being so cold can someone help me find the plug to plug it up I have look and can not find it. I would appreciate any help Thanks
The 01 DuraMax trucks do not have a block heater, unless they were special ordered with one. Just turn the key to the on position a few times before you try to crank it, and hold the accelerator partially down while doing it. However, don't hold the accelerator if it starts to crank, it DOES need a minute to warm up before being revved. Also, use a diesel treatment when its cold, it helps a lot.

Does it have diesel?
Could be fuel filter or fuel pump.
Glow plugs?
Injectors? these trucks have been known to have bad injectors.
Possibly the oil pump, the injectors run off the oil pump.
The spark plugs are usually 1/3 down from the top of the engine cover. The easiest way to find them is to follow 4 or 6 matching cables which end in a row across the engine.
To see if they're working take one out, turn the engine over and you should see a spark across the electrodes.
But remember, you only have spark plug on petrol engines, diesel engines have glow plugs, they look similar, they're in a similar place, but these just glow very hot.
If, the glow plugs haven't been changed for 5 years or more, then they might start to fail, one reason why a diesel engine won't start.
There arent any glow plugs, there is an intake heater in the manifold, there are 2 relays under driver side battery that warms the heater (when wait to start light is on) for starting.
Well, Hate to say this to you but your Cummins 24v turbo diesel does not have glow plugs. The fuel temperature necessary for proper ignition is heated by an element inside your fuel filter housing.
you can use a 12v test light or multi meter to check
for power at each glow plug during the cycle if you
have power you can do a visual check pull a plug
with power wire on have a helper turn key on use a
clip lead to ground the plug (hold plug with pliers)
if it works the element will get HOT.
if that checks out you can also try changing to a lighter oil a fresh fuel filter and everyones favorite
plug me in. hope this helps good luck.
My guess is injectors. The early duramax's had a lot of injector problems. They sometimes get to where they bleed constantly, and sometimes they break off... bad stuff. Check your oil for diesel. When my dads injectors when out on his 01 D'Max, his truck would run ok for a while, then lose power. Computer will cut power when it picks up an injector problem. BTW, Sightseer, diesels dont have spark plugs, however, the diesel filter is a good idea, you have to change them pretty regularly on the D'Max engines ( in order to try and prolong the injectors lives, mainly, the smallest bit of junk in your fuel can screw those early injectors up quick) I think they got the injectors mostly straightened out in the 04 models, what I've heard is thats the best model Duramax there has been, fuel economy, power, and reliability. Too bad all the year models arent that way :/
if it dont have good compression it will not start check the comp and make sure there no water in oil if fuel pressure is low it will not pop the injector open try some starting fluid
Do you have a block warmer installed?
