Slow to fast battery drain problem when engine is off.

My 98 saturn sl has had a slow battery drain problem for a year and usually starts up with a small jump if not driven for 2 or 3 days, but now the problem has gotten larger and drains a fully charged battery in ten mins and won't take a jump easily to get started. i tested the battery which is ok and the alternator is working and keeps the electric system running when the engine is on. do you know any possible solutions or common problems associated with shorts in these models?, i don't know these cars very well as it was handed down from my parents.

If you connect a 12VDC test light in line, between your + battery post & + battery cable,(cable off battery obviously) the light will stay lit brightly as long as there is a draw. Keep in mind your radio will cause some due to memory function, clock etc. Pull stereo/radio fuse to eliminate that draw, then start removing fuses, and putting them back, watch light. If it dims, or goes out, you've found the source of your current draw. I have had to resort to pulling them all,(after making notes for anything I needed to remember about where they were) to get light to go out, then re-installing one by one & watching light. When it comes on nice & bright, note which fuse slot, and pull it back out and continue on, in case of more than one draw.

Bypassed wire harness draining battery?

With the ignition switch in the off position, check each curcuit by pulling out each fuse 1 by 1. Use a digital multi meter to check for current drain by pulling the fuse and touching the contacts with an amp meter, if it shows current that is the curcuit you need to pay attention too

2002 saturn has no heat, engine heats up very

Sounds like a thermostat problem to start with. Follow the top rad. hose to the engine. You will have to bleed the system of air after.

How do i know if it is my ECTS or IAC for high reving in my 98 saturn sl sohc

The engine coolant temp.sensor and idle air control will usually make the check engine light come on if they go bad.If you have high idling then check for vacuum leaks or sticky throttle.

Car wont start

Try checking the battery, it could be dead or almost dead. If it is, you might want to check and see if the alternater is out. If that dosn't work or the battery is fine, then try replacing the starter.

98 saturn sl1 won't start

if you have good battery voltage at this time, and when you banged on the starter and then the car cranked over, it would appear you have a defective starter. i would imagine if you replaced it in july of last year that it could still be under some sort of warranty, so i would look into that. either way, it sounds as if you need a new starter.
