SOURCE: volvo s40 1998 bulb warning light on, what does
If by that you mean:
"warning light goes on when I start the motor, and goes off after first time I use the brake pedal"
, don't worry, it's normal, it's how it work. If it stays on even after the use of brakes, you have a bad bulb on brake tail lamps

unhook possitive post on battery....wait and then reconnect...this usually works...make sure fuel cap is always tight and never leave car running while refueling. this causes 85% of engine lights coming on
SOURCE: i have a warning light on my v reg volvo s40 and
Hi Mark, A friend of mine had a light come on but can't remember which side it was on, Anyway might be the same fault! The light in mention used to stay on after starting the car until he first used his brakes after which it used to go out, He came for my help after he noticed it stayed on all the time and l thought it was indicating that the breakpads wanted changing. I asked him about recent things he had done to the car and he said that he had changed a brake light bulb, After inspection of the bulb I found he had put the wrong wattage bulb in which caused the dash, brake light out, warning light to stay on. If this is the wrong fault and the dash light in question is other then I can only suggest maybe a faulty spark plug or faulty ht lead Or a faulty injector or bad power connection to the injector(s) (try cleaning connections). or even a faulty coil pack.
