SOURCE: engine wont turn over with key, not getting enough gas to run.

Have the key and ignition checked! I am assuming that the key has a security chip on it, Right? If so, re-program key at dealership, and if that alone doesn't work, have them check both the key and column.

SOURCE: Vehicle Won't Start

The solution to this problem was simple, embarrasing and frustrating. The dome light was left on, and discharged the battery....enough to prevent the ignition from firing apparently. I did not suspect this, because the starter would turn the engine over very well, for a long time, and would do this repeatedly. In all my experience, I have never seen an engine spin that well and not start. According to the dealer, the voltage was too low for the ignition to work. While I do not know the exact threshhold where the voltage is too low to crank, I could have detected the condition by checking the voltage at the battery while cranking. It should have been significantly below 12 volts, indicating a low battery. The tow truck driver who picked it up simply used a portable battery to jump it off and cranked it with no problem. The symptom of the starter continuing to run after releasing the key is new technology with computerized controls, and is normal nowdays. You don't really notice this because the engine usually fires so quickly that it is undetectable.

SOURCE: starter starts...engine dosn't crank...starter dosn't stop.

Hi

An unusual one here !

Suspect the problem lies in the starter solenoid.

But most strange a for constant live feed with ignition off.

May possibly be more a relay problem ?

Good Luck

John.

P.S. Don´t forget to give me a rating please !

94 jeep grand cherokee was running great got up the next morning to find its not firing anymore what couldve happened

why not answer simple questions first?
how many miles ? on this car?
no engine stated 4L or 5.2L???????????????????????
I guess you are working with no scan tool.?
NO voltmeter
I see now the only fact we have is the single
outside, spark coil is dead. 1 fact.
if its good (simple tests, ohm out the primary and secondary yet>?)
so that means the ECU is cutting spark
In fact I bet the ASD relay is not energizing
or is dropping out while cranking.
if the ASD drops, spark ends, a fact.
if the ASD drops you must scan it or use the key jive test (key on 3 times)
If the ASD drops do not buy a new PCM

the ASD drops for many reasons up to 8.
including VTSS errors. (yup)

1: ckp dead.
2: cmp dead
3: TPS pin 2, throttle angle at 100% or near 5v.
new 1volt is correct , foot off gas pedal.
4: If PCM see's spark is dead, it cuts fuel.with ASD
the ASD logic uses a 3 second rule.
all the above, must be good or it drops
when it drops vast things go off line,
fuel, and spark and more. its for crash protection
no crash and burn as seen on TV, and USA law.

questions
did you pull out the CKP ,with 1 bolt type, and slotted hole?
oops
did you pull out the distributor then not prevent loss of injector timing, oops2.
IS the cluster warning lamp on "SECURITY"
oops VTSS is un happy if yes, it can be bypassed

74 malibu. Starts but wont stay running. New starter, New Fuses, New distributor. Spark plugs are firing and fuel is getting to engine.

It seems like you have overlooked something.
If you have spark and fuel, it should keep running.
Sometimes the key switch is faulty and you loose spark when you turn the key back to the run position.
You should be able to run a jumper wire to the coil and crank the engine over to see if you are loosing power to the coil.

I just replaced my starter on my 99 gmc yukon and it was fine for 10 minutes then it made this weired noise and when I went to turn the truck off the engine kept going and then smoke came from the starter...

Sounds to me like your starter did not disengage and was running the whole time when vehicle running. From your key to the starter is a "trigger wire" which activates the starter when you turn the key. If that wire end touches other wires on the starter then the solenoid will stay on keeping the starter running which will then over heat and burn out the starter. If vehicle was running fine before the starter replacement there is really nothing else it could be.

1995 Taurus. Starter will not disengage. Engine cranks, but will not turn over.

Find the starter relay under the hood. It may be bad and stuck so power continues going to the starter. Try a new relay Or try pulling off the small signal wire on the relay (it is from the switch), and hook battery up. If starter continues to run, the relay is bad. If starter is stopped, put the signal wire back on relay. If starter now starts operating, and key is still off, then switch may be bad .Location of relay may be at left front fender apron, in front of shock tower (like on earlier taurus models).

I have a cadallic escadale. It will turn over but wont start.

The fuel pressure should be 60 to 65psi in your system with the engine not running and fuel line primed, (ignition key's to the run position). Once engine is running the fuel pressure should drop by 5psi, change the fuel filter and recheck the fuel pressure at the shredder valve. it's known for the fuel pump to fail when the gas tank runs low or out of gas, the pump will end up burning it self out since the gas is what keeps the electric fuel pump cooled. The other thing to is putting gas through the top of the throttle body to start the engine on the SEFI is a NO NO, well a BIG NO NO. it's been know for the gas in the intake to catch fire and burn up the poppet valve in the injection system causing the replacement of the fuel injection system. Keep me posted and good luck, be gald to help you get your truck running again for the july 4th. OH and it was not mentioned but did the fuel filter get replaced???

My 1999 GMC Sierra wont start. It has the 5.3l V8

Sounds like a security problem that is preventing starting. It will run for a few seconds and then die.
