There are a few thing that can cause this type of problem, A weak fuel pump is the most common, not enough fuel pressure . the pump puts out just enough to start and idle but when gas is applied it sputters and pops and stalls out. I would start with having the fuel pressure tested, a fuel pressure gauge will be needed to perform this test. you may be able to rent one from auto parts store, you will connect at the injector rail, there will be a valve , like the tire air valve. screw end of gauge to valve and start engine and see what the pressure is. the pressure needs to be at 38 psi, or test pressure without starting just turning key on and then pressure needs to be 47- 50 psi.

If the pressure is lower than the specs then pump is bad..
the other problems could be a bad tps sensor or mass air flow sensor, but from the way you listed what the problem is doing i would have to say start with the fuel pump testing first,

SOURCE: idle surging chugging weird problem READ!!

hey common problem w/the 2000 galant. you may need a mirror to see this, look and or feel where your throttle body mates up to your intake manifold. it has a problem of cracking, when you have an air leak there it will run like **** and usually shut off depending on the severity. this will cause you to get the throttle position malfunction code. if that is the case instead of buying a new or used intake manifold. take the old one off, and you can actually cut it flush and weld about a 2 inch in length tube to repair the crack. well let me know how it goes.

2002honda Accord 4cyl.auto. has hesitation after making turn and accelerating. When you apply throttle a brief flat spot then surges forward.seems to run ok.

This is a loss of fuel pressure and it could be either the fuel pump in the gas tank or the throttle sensor in the engine.

Engine cut off while driving down the highway why?

Fuel pump may be failing. Check fuel pressure at injector rail. If pressure is good and stays good, suspect fuel pump relay may be getting weak.

Sudden power surge -happens in stop and start traffic. Foot on brake when power surge happens-I had to slam on brakes to prevent read end collosion. Three events in last two weeks.

Just my opinion, I wouldn't drive till you get it looked at, that sounds dangerous.
How long since a tune-up?
Any applicable trouble codes?
Sounds like something is telling the computer to up the idle, at the moment, I don't know why? Are you running the ac when this happens?
Check and clean throttle-body and anything that has to do with idle air system. Also, check the maf sensor, where applicable.

When driving my 1997 Audi A 4 1.8t there is a loss of power around 3000 rpm, what could be causing the issue?

run the fault codes and look for a problem area in the vane actuator of the turbo
it could be a sensor problem or a MAP sensor problem
this is indicated by the pressures being generated or not generated by a turbo generating pressure from the throttle opening on acceleration or held at constant speed

change the repair shop to an accredited service center that will use the scan tool first to save you money
repairing by guessing is costly
the codes will probably show an EVAP system problem or a fuel pressure problem
