How do I "test the antenna ground"?

  • steve_believ Jan 15, 2009

Thanks, just tried that and the ohm meter stayed at didn't change at all. It started at 1 and didn't move.

  • steve_believ Jan 15, 2009

Sorry, my mistake. Thought I would try this again and use a better ground source, this time I got about an 8 on the ohm meter. What now?

Pull the anteena lead out of the back of the radio, use a ohm meter and touch the sheet metal of the car u should not have more than 3 ohm's on the outside of the metal antenna plug that goes into the radio.

    test the antenna ground.

clean the mounting of the antenna and retest, if it improves try the radio, do u have poor reception on both AM and FM? if so the radio is most likely the problem but a better antenna ground is essential for quality reception, u are testing the part of the connector that surrounds the inner plug? often the problem can be the connector end is not making good connection to the coax cable ground, new plugs can be had at Radio Shack.

Chk. for a poor connection wear entenna plugs into radio, it could have corrosion or it could just be loose.

HU-850 radio audio goes off & on along with a constant clicking. Any recommendation's?

I've got issues with my FM reception but the CD and other components have been rock solid since 2006. Check the amplifier unit under the front passenger seat. there are several cables under there that could get damaged by the seat moving up and back with something stuck under the seat. I think there's also a preamp behind the glove box that may have some audio connections.

2008 chrysler convertible replaced radio and installed windshield atennea but still having problems with getting reception

check and see some radios need a extra ground not just to the frame of the radio. and some antennas have different size plugs make sure it is tight and making contact both places the little one in the middle and the bigger outer one.

RDS reception with BMW Business radio

Well i remember the M25 being built so i wouldnt know about radio reception ,but i do remember radio london and caroline. Now i would imagine that this sort of auto reset of tuning reception is controled by a micro chip and this chip is now not working as it should so if you want it to work then its most likely cheaper to install a new radio.Or just use long wave for radio 4.
