Remove the positive or negative battery cable for 5 minutes and the code should clear, however, it's best to have someone with a diagnostic scanner check it to see what is causing the sevice light to come on. If you have a problem then clearing the service light will only last until the next time the computer reports the problem. I have this problem too, from time to time, it won,t act up for the dealership, when the service message is on I can shut the truck off and come back later and the hubs have turned in and the service light is off and the 4 wheel is fine, it is a '07 gmc 2500 hd

BMW Model E39 built from 1996~2000 will have a port like the one shown below. A Reset tool like a Peake R5 or R5-FCX is needed to reset the oil service or inspection service lights after required service.

1) If you have a reset tool then turn your car key to Position II but do not start the car.
2) Turn the cap counter clock wise on the Data Link Connector and insert the Reset Tool
3) Follow the instructions of your reset tool, different models may have different functions however they all create a short in PIN 7 to PIN 19 for a given amount of time.

OIL Service Reset requires pin 7 and 19 to be closed for 3+ seconds

INSPECTION Service Reset requires pin 7 and 19 to be closed for 10+ seconds

4) Once done, remove the reset tool and close the cap .
5) Your dash should light up with green lights at this point.
If the light did NOT reset after the above steps then you might be resetting Oil Service however an Inspection Service is needed.

Since the service engine light only comes on when there's a problem with the fuel, ignition or emission control system the car will automatically disable the car remote because it thinks there might be a problem with the emissions of the vehicle. I suspect it's to prevent further pollution if the car is in fact having a emission problems. In my case(s), the emssion sensor gets dirty and causes the sevice engine light to come on. Bring it to the shop and put the scope on it to make sure there's nothing wrong and reset the error msg. Next time, run it through a car wash, shut the vehicle off and start it again. check ur manual service. or reset , its probably in the fuse box to reset, but check ur manual book to find where the reset bottom is in order to turn off the service gage

did the sevice light come on before you serviced it? when you "serviced" it I assume you changed the oil and now need the service light reset.
I bought the 1998 S70. it got time to change the oil. Being how I am I changed the oil myself. I had to call dealership about resetting the service light.
they said $29.96.
I said 29.95?!!! how much if YOU would have changed my oil and reset the light?

so I learned you need to access the OBDII to reset the light.after service. hope this helps.

This is showing that your overdue for a sevice by 8,769. Depending on which service it will either say oil or inspection. With bmw's the order is of service is oil service .. inspection 1 ... oil service .... inspection 2. etc etc.

To reset the light the only tool you need is your finger. On some e46's there are 2 instrument cluster buttons (little rubber poles sticking out). If you press the left one with the ignition off you'll notice your mileage come up on the dash. This is the button you need to reset the service indicator.

With everything off,press and hold the same button and at the same time turn on the ignition to position 2 and wait a few seconds. It will then show the service and overdue mileage.Let go of the button and press and hold again until the 'reset' light flashes. Let go again and then hit the button once. Viola! The same can be done for resetting brake fluid light (clock symbol next to mileage) Instead of pressing and holding for the second time just press the button once to follow into a different menu for and the clock symbol will appear to be reset.

I'm not completely sure if this will work but it tends to be something similar to the following that works on several cars of different makes and models.

Start with car off. Turn ignition key to first position. Press and hold the reset key for the trip mileage (odometer) while holding the reset turn ignition key to second position. Service light should be blinking - on 4th blink release the reset button.
