2004 PONTIAC SUNFIRE REPLACED ALTERNATOR NOW STARTER CRANKS BUT WILL NOT START

-can not hear the fuel pump either. Could this be related to the anti theft system?. Tried the relearn procedure, but the key does not have a visable resistor pellet. Had the same problem with a 2003 Sunfire when the alternator was changed a few months ago. It eventually did start (did not know about or try the relearn procedure on the 2003) after an hour of off and on cranking and some quick start, but on the 2003 you could hear the fuel pump. Neither car has keyless entry. Are the 2003 and 2004 anti theft systems different? Did driving with the battery voltage dropping because the alternator was not charging damage the computer ? Thanks for any help.

I had the same issue!! it is the security system failing. I took it to the shop and they wanted a ridiculous amount of money to fix it.. So i did a ton of research and i found a part you can install yourself that will bypass it allowing your car to start every time... I did mine 5 years ago and i havent had an issue since. Check out the site your car in on the list year make and model.. They are friendly and have great customer service and for some reason if it doesnt work they will refund you 100% hope this helps ya out

SOURCE: Resseting alarm lockout in 2001 Pontiac Sunfire

turning left and stalling sounds like your power steering pressure switch is bad.as for other problem try unlocking drivers door using the key this should reset the factory alarm. also make sure you didn't miss a wire when reconnecting bat. look for 12gauge red wire near bat. this goes to computer if not connected car will crank but not start.

Does 2004 Pontiac sunfire have fuse for starter

No fuse. It has a solenoid at the starter. If your car does not crank and the battery is good with good connections, then you may have a bad solenoid or starter. With the key in start position, have someone strike the starter with a hammer. If it starts then replace the starter and solenoid. If it does not, then you may have an anti-theft problem with the ignition.

Car wont start

What is your symptoms? No crank its starter related, crank but you don't hear buzzing sound from fuel pump its fuel pump failure, turn engine and have someone listen by fuel door if hard to hear. If it cranks, you hear fuel pump, check your battery. If not battery, check for engine codes.

1998 sunfire in codep1629, how do I fix it

You may want to do some research on the code. The basic problem is the anti-theft system is not seeing a crank signal and shutting down the fuel pump. It could be the security system, or the crank sensor, or other issues.
If you have auto start or a remote starting system it can cause these problems too.

2004 sunfire, engine will crank but wont start, could it be anything besides the fuel pump? There have been no advanced warnings.

CHECK 20 AMP IGNITION FUSE.AND CHECK FUEL PUMP AND FUEL INJECTOR FUSE.IF ALL IS GOOD HAVE CAR SCANNED A FAULTY CRANK SHAFT SENSOR OR OPEN EGR VALVE.OR FAULTY PCM WILL CAUSE NO START PROBLEMS.ALSO ANTI THEFT SECURITY SYSTEM WILL SHUT DOWN CAR.WHEN YOU HAVE IT SCANNED IT WILL TELL YOU THE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM IS THE PROBLEM..

My buddy has a 89 pontiac sunfire. It sat for a while and he just started driving it, let the gas run out and put new in and then it stopped running. Today we sprayed starter fluid into the throttle and it...

You could have a bad pump motor in your fuel pump. You will hear the "hum" of the pump motor but it won't continuously feed enough pressue to the system.
When you prime it the engine will draw enough to run for a bit then quit. They usually dry out if not kept full and sunfire fuel pumps are noted for this type of failure.
Try a used one for about 75 bucks. My kids Sunfire did exactly the same thing.

My 2004 Pontiac sunfire wont start the battery is fine but its just not getting gas

When you turn the switch to ON do you hear a sound for a couple of seconds ? you should hear a sound which is made by the fuel pump as soon as you turn the key. If you do not hear anything, you may need to replace the fuel pump. If you do hear the sound of the fuel pump, check your fuel filter .

2004 Pontiac Sunfire Does crank position sensor control fuel pump?

no, when you turn key on you should hear pump run for 2-3 seconds, if not check fuses, then if fuses are good have someone tapped fuel tank with rubber hammer as key is turned on, if fuel pump runs after tapping tank, replace fuel pump
