I have the emercany brake and the battery light on in truck. I have had the alternator and the battery tested and they both pass. When I'm driving the lights will be bright one minute then the next will be so dim that I can barely see the road. The brakes work great and I don't need any brake fluid. Now the battery gauge is jumping all over and being drained within 2-4 hours. Someone told me it was a short between the battery and alternator so I checked that and I seemed fine.
There is a problem in the charge circuit and it indicates a short in the system
could be in the alternator or voltage regulator or if the voltage regulator is in the ECM , the ECM itself
If the alternator was not removed and bench tested , any wire problems would be revealed and the unit not properly tested
check for bad ground wire from the battery to the engine

There should be at least 2 bulbs in the light assembly. One light is the light that is on when you turn on your headlights with out the brake pressed, the other light only lights up while you press on the brake. Make sure you are replacing the correct bulb. You may have been replacing the bulb that stays on. Your lights may be set up to turn off the light that stays on when the headlights are on while pressing the brakes.

to ss1957, i have exactly the same problem as yours. At first i thought the bulbs of both side are okay because the filaments (there's two on each) are intact. It turned out that they're not. The brake lights came back as soon as I replaced the bulbs.

Check the voltage of battery with voltmeter.. It is sometimes possible that if voltage of battery drops and jump start is needed, your computer will only charge to the last voltage that was recognized which would be when jumped...Try and charge the battery if possible I would actually suggest that you have your battery tested at local auto parts store and if it is presumed in good condition ,let them charge for you to max capacity . If battery has been tested and labeled as no good replace if necessary... Oh, and first thing you should do is make sure your positive and negative battery connections are clean and tight...if this didnt fix problem please give more info on what was found when advice above was followed...Good Luck!!!!

Lok in the trunk on the left side, behind the carpet for a small plastic box with a bunch of wires going to it. Look to see if there is brake light powe coming in with the pedal depressed. If so, and no power is coming out, you need to order and replace the "taillamp failure sensor".

Sounds like you will have to bleed your brakes again, but thats not the problem og hard brake peddle, need to check your power brake booster, sit right in back of master cylinder, check make sure it has vacum going to it, also to test it with engine off, press on brake peddle three time, then state engine with foot on peddle, peddle should go down a few inches, also with engine of peddle should feel soft for three pumps, if you have none of this , power brake booster is bad.
