I will be honest here...I am a woman who knows NOTHING about cars. Also I am a single mom, who cant afford yet another mechanic...so here goes. I have a 1996 Lexus ES 300...this doesnt happen all of the time but most of the time...I will be driving...whether 30 mph or 60 mph and all of the sudden the car slows down and the RPMs rev very high. When this happens the car loses power. I have had the speed sensor changed so what else could it be?

It may be your transmission. If it shifts hard going through gears also then it may be that. But what you decribed it it slipping gears which would target your transmission or rear end.

So the transmission will cause the RPMs to race like that? I have had it put on the computer test thing at Advanced Auti a number of times and all it said was the speed sensor. After getting a new sensor it ran perfect for a bit then back to the same old thing

SOURCE: intermitent electrical shut off

Asked a local independent Toyota/Lexus repair shop.

He suggested checking battery cables at both ends to assure tight fit.

Positive cable was ever so slightly loose.

Tightened all cables. Will see if that solves problem.

Rear scubbing on my right rear brakes

If there is still a problem with your brakes take it back to the shop and they should look at it free. They should probably fix it too.

I need to change timing belt is it hard to change I am a single mom and cant afford to pay a mechanic I am going to attempt to do it myself please help mom with no money

It would depend alot on the make model and year of the car, and your mechanical ability. You should first buy a repair book and study the procedure to see if you think you are up to the challenge. And if you have the right tools or not. A timing belt job is not for the average DIY.

The transmission, i presume it is automatic.
the transmission engages a park mechanism that locks it and keeps it from rolling then, when you put it into drive it will take off and go.

95 dodge stratus transmission problem

Whoever told you that you need a new transmission was correct!! I had to have mine replaced last September. Unless you have a friend that's a mechanic it's going to cost you at least $2000.00 if not $2500.00. Hopefully you have some mechanic friends. GOOD LUCK
