Four wheel drive will not engage
I have a 2006 sierra 1500 crew cab with 42k. I rarely use 4 wheel drive. Today i engaged it and it feels like it mechanically engages, but the indicator does not come on and it is not in 4 wheel drive. Any ideas?
I found that putting it into neutral on the transfer case and then drive on the transmission seemed to resolve it. Backing up and going forward did not as it usually did. Thanks for the help!

MY 1996 GMC SONOMA ,5 SPEED, MANUAL, 6 CLYINDER TRUCK. Check the 4WD fuse. They are also prone to bad front axle actuators. They are electrically controlled and sometimes too weak to engage axle shift fork. If fuse good check for power and ground to actuator, if good you'll need an actuator. They do have issues with the transfer case encoder motor, so make sure it actually engages as you said. Front driveshaft turning.
My 00 did the same thing , If you did get it in 4x4 it took 30 minutes pushing 2wd to get it back..I change the selctor switch work'd fine since. About 40 50 bucks.HOPE THIS HELPS
try going into reverse for 10 feet then go to drive for 10 feet that might help if not it is to the wiring to you 4x4 engage system (wires to your wheel hub)
