Due to my passenger opening the rear door before I could centrally unlook my doors, the locking latch may have drop out. How do I repir this minor defect as I need some schematics to get into the latch assembly? Have opened the door panels but unable to get access into the mechanical latching system to repair? Can anyone help me here as the platic assemby housing loks pretty well sealed? Appreciate your assistance. Cheers

Since you have the door panel off, pul the rod for the door lock manually inside the door, this should unlock it, if it does not, there is a small push button, basicly a little peice of metal on the latch itself on the door latch inside the door, push it down this should pop the door open, you may need to spray all of the mechinisms with white lithium grease in a arosol can.....

There isn't a book or manual detailed enough to show you the inner workings of this lock mechanism. You will more than likely end up damaging the door panel and the mechanism to get the door open. You could go to a junk yard and get a used latch, see how it works, and then jimmy yours open. Or you could buy a new one and do the same thing. Either way the door panel has to come off with the door open and the latch will probably be damaged. There is a little spring that comes off or breaks in the latch and causes exactly what you are describing. There could be other issues as well but it definately needs the latch replaced.

linkage on inside of door has come undone. take off inside door panel and you will find a small rod that goes to the lock mechanism where the door closes opposite the hinges. follow the handle to the door lock.the nylon bushing may have broken.they are cheap to purchase at auto part stores.

SOURCE: 2003 Nissan Murano hatch back door won't unlock or open
I have a 2004 Murano. I opened the small hatch and with a screw driver and someone on the outside managed to open the hatch. The problem appears to be bent pieces inside. After straightening them out and using a good silicon spray, mine works again. It should be lubricated quite frequently.
