My son's 1995 Regal has been starting just fine. Went out to start it this afternoon, and it wouldn't even turn over. Just a clicking noise. Tried to jump start it - nothing ... just the same clicking noise. Is this a starter problem ?
Loose or coroded battery terminals or starter, clean battery connections, try it, if that doesnt work, probably starter
The clicking noise is the solenoid sending a signal to the starter, likely your starter is pooched. There is a way to bypass the starter by touching a screwdriver to two of the posts on the starter (which is under the engine), I think the two right posts? (Watch your fingers, the fan may come on when it starts!) I had this same problem, this got me through the day until I could get it to my mechanic.
What do you think it is if you cross the terminals and it turns over but won't stay started?

Will check the terminals and connections to see if this works...hopefully it does. Thank you.
Same problem with my 95 regal it had been starting fine, stopped for gas and car would'nt start just clicking sounds. Make sure you have good connections when jumpstarting the battery is buried deep not easy to get to. it took a couple of tries and starter spun fine I used the pos accessory post and engine block for a good connection. Charged battery and it held a charge . Alternator was bad and I now Know that the batt dash warning light was burnt out. I was running on battery power for a couple of days till there was not enough battery power left to crank engine
