Question about 2000 Mercury Sable

P1115 and P1116 Error Codes

The crank sensor on my car died out of the blue and when I tried to start the car, it flooded the system with gas. So I have replaced the crank sensor, put in brand new spark plugs, replaced the mass air flow sensor and the upper radiator hose. The car finally starts and runs relatively smoothly except at low speeds at which point it is jumpy. I still have the check engine light and am see error code P1115 and P1116. Anybody have an idea of (1) how to fix these codes and (2) why they came up in the first place? At this point, I'm going to take it to a shop to look at, but they have already said they are bewildered by the codes. Thanks!

Hi, this is an issue that concerns the coil pack on your engine. It is malfunctioning. and, i recommend testing to make sure of thsi issue.

Check for dirt, corrosion or damage on the terminals and repair as necessary.

Measure coil primary resistance between ignition coil pin 4 (B+) and pins 1 (coil 2), 2 (coil 3) and 3 (coil 1) .


Resistance should be 0.3-1.0 ohms. If resistance is out of specifications, replace the coil pack. If resistance is within specifications, proceed to secondary windings testing.



Coil 1-cylinders 1 and 5 Coil 3-cylinders 2 and 6 Coil 2-cylinders 3 and 4


Resistance should be 12.8-13.1 kilohms. If secondary resistance is not within specification, replace the coil pack.

If you bought an after market EGR, they normally have different size orifices with them. If the correct diameter isn't used, it can give you the same error. The H02S11 refers to the first Heated Oxygen Sensor on bank 1. It can be caused by a leaky vaccuum line at the Mass Air Flow sensor or a bad PCV valve or PCV system hose.
Occasionally it will indicate a plugged fuel injector or low fuel pressure.

P0171 indicates a lean condition. The most common cause of this is a defective mass air flow sensor. Also check if any vacuum leaks.
P0174 OBD-II Trouble Code Technical Description

System Too Lean (Bank 2)
What does that mean?

Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 2 detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust.

Note: This DTC is very similar to P0171, and in fact your vehicle may show both codes at the same time.

P0430 means you're going to buy a cat. (And you'll have to fix the coolant leak.)Catalyst System Low Efficiency (Bank 2) .Also check O2 sensors .

After hot engine wont start and smells like gas


Most likely causes are bad engine coolant temp sensor OR leaking fuel injectors. Bad engine coolant temp sensor will give computer false reading and computer provides wrong air fuel mixture. Leaking fuel injectors will load the engine with raw gas--just like flooding it. Try pushing the gas pedal to the floor and holding it there when cranking when hot. That forces the computer into "clear flood" mode and it shuts off the injectors. If it starts up with pedal down, that would be a sign of leaking injectors.

Hard starting, hesitates when trying to accellerate,


ok these is a long shot but it will only take you a mint you gota an o2 sensor that it is ion the exhaust system , note there is one ( or 2 , depend if you have one or 2 exhaust pipes ) before the cat and there 1 or 2 after the cat , if you can take the front one(s) out ( completely out ( leave the electrical connected ) wait for 5 min and then start your car push the accelerator and see if the hesitating is gone , let me know if u have any question , , ohh and let me know what kind of car u have so i can pull the diagram

Probably flooding possibly blocked return line (I assume EFI) or faulty TPS (Throttle posision sensor) but first check for visual problems like split intake tube, vac leak etc...

2000 Blazer Cranks, Won't Start


First of all, a diagnostic wont tell them that there is arcing involved. I am thinking it is your crank sensor. It expands and retracts in different weather situations.It should make contact in all weather situations.

Coolant temp sensor sets up the fuel system tlike a choke. Do not use gas pedal when try tto start. Remove your air filter remporarily and try it.

2.8 motor starts and dies


If the choke is open very far it will start and run for a second then die because its getting to much gas or flooding itself.

99 saturn will carnk but won't start


try cranking engine while holding gas pedal to the floor, this turns off the fuel injectors to clear excess fuel from cyls. eng my just be flooded. may need to crank for a long time. if engine starts do not let off gas until you are sure eng will run on its own.
