96ChryslerCirrus: 'door' warning vs odometer miles, Dome light stays on.

96ChryslerCirrus:seatbelt in doorjam so door closed on it. Hit door with body to finish closing but failed. So opened door and laid seatbelt in further so could close door. When returned, the dome light had stayed on. Now must turn dome light ceiling switch off. But 'door' warning shows instead of odometer miles once start driving despite all doors closed, and gas pump icon stays lit as if low, but tank full. Except for gas warning, think must be some car door sensor ruined?

In the Ford Ranger, the light switch can be found in the door, right by the latch. You may need to use some WD-40 to get to work properly. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

oil didn't work, but must have broken wire or something in there. Since car thinks door ajar, dome light stays lit of course.

Interior lights won't shut off

Some vehicles have a twist dashlight control and when it is turned to the extreme position it turns on the interior lights. Other vehicles have a separate switch for interior lights right on the dome light. Yet another type is a dome light with 3 selections that command the dome light to be on fulltime, or to be off fulltime, or the normal door opening triggering the switch.

Provided the problem is not any of the above, you could have a bad doorjam pin switch which is not separating its contacts when the door is closed. I would look at the drivers switch first as it has the most use.

Dome lights will not turn off

There are a few possibilities. First, the Dome light usually has 3 settings on its own switch located in the Dome light case.
One position is full OFF, another position is by Door opening, and the final position is FULL ON.
If these settings do not help, then you must have a bad doorjam switch or a grounded wire. When the door switch is pushed in by the closing of the door, the plunger in the stem of the door switch is suppose to separate the wires.
If the switch is cracked within the door frame opening, the wires may not separate and break the connection. You would need to remove the doorjam switch and BEFORE you removed the wires tape something to the wires to prevent losing the wiring loom in the frame of the body.
Another potential reason for the Dome light staying ON is the headlight switch. Turning the light switch beyond the full dash brightness limit will MANUALLY turn on the Dome light. Check to see if the light switch is turned too far.

97 mercury grand marquis dome light turns on and off as u open and close rf door..any ideas???

Sounds like there is a loose ground wire inside the door panel, but the doorjam switch should be what determines the off and on. It is located in the doorjam.

Sometimes the wiring that goes through the doorjam can hide a broken wire inside. There are more connections in the drivers door because it is the Master location for all the other locks and windows.

Go to for wiring diagrams for free. Just register your car and you can get chassis diagrams to show where the wires are for that circuit.

If you are going to fool around with the wiring, disconect the battery first. The only big thing is the controls for the outside mirror can make the removal of the door a little more difficult.

2001 mazda 626 battery drain

If the headlight switch is turned fully to one side, it will keep the interior light on. Some models have the feature in the overhead light, that allows for 3 positions to be set. Position one lights the dome light when the door is opened. Position two keeps the Domelight on regardless of the door. Position three is the always off setting.

If the problem is not in the headlight switch or the Domelight settings, then check your rear Cargo door. Some even have a separate switch to turn on the interior light from the Cargo area so you can see what you are unloading.

If you find that none of the above solutions work, then you must have a doorjam switch that has come apart inside the doorjam. These are a bit more difficult to find because each must be removed without losing the wiring in a hidden area. But start with the Drivers door as it gets the most wear.

He could try to unsnap the light lens and remove the bulb. If you have underdash or door lights it may provide at least some lighting and you could do without the Dome light.

Door alar sensor, driver door

Hello, sometimes the rear 1/2 door will not entirely close. Try closing this door and see if the warning goes off. If the rear door is slightly off, then the big door will not close completely.

Temporarily put a small ball of tape on the contact point for the front door. Then close the door and start the engine and see if the light goes out. If the light does not go out you will have to remove the doorjam switch by unscrewing it. The plastic divider inside the switch separates the tiny pin connectors and the plastic probably broke. You will have to get another doorjam switch.

You do not want to fish your wires out of the sill frame. Secure the wires will tape as you disconnect them.

Warning light came on this morning, figure of a man with the seatbelt. What does this indicate?

This is the seatbelt indicator, its not seeing that your seatbelt is fastened ifthe light stays on and the chime keeps going off.

There is a switch inthe seatbelt that closes when the seatbelt is buckled, and if not, thelight stays on and the chime goes off.

There are a couple reasons thiscould happen. It could be a wiring issue going to the seatbelt buckle,or more likely the buckle itself. Your truck is pretty new, so if youare under 36,000 miles the repair would normally be covered underwarranty.

Also, I suggest check the Repair Manual for Jeep-WK-Grand-Cherokee-Section-08O-Restraints (page 473 and next, for Seat Belt)

Hope helps with this (remember rated this) Good luck.

I have a 1997 toyota corolla that one of the chimes (seat belt, key ignition or lights) just started dinging and won't stop until the car is turned off.

Get in the car, make sure your dome light is set to door-operation.
Close all the doors, does the dome light go out?
If so, it's not the door ajar chime. If not, one of your door pin switches is defective.
Buckle your seatbelt, does the seatbelt warning light on the dash go out?
If so, it's not the seatbelt alarm. If not, it's the seatbelt buckle receiver.
The light warning works with the key off, so it is not that since turning the car off would not stop it.
Last thing it could be is the ignition key alarm.
I have seen a few malfunction over the years.

Dome lights won't go out / 93 buick century

your doorswitch is inside the door on the striker latch. You will need to remove the door panel to access. chances are it is stuck in the closed position. Your seatbelt latch sensor has also gone bad. It is located inside the receptacle of the seatbelt. If you only want to diengage the light, look for the molex plug attached to the wire coming from the seatbelt receptacle.
