This problem just started today. When I'm driving my car will shut off leaving the headlights on. I can start the car right back up by turning the ignition but sometimes it won't catch and I'll i have to hold the ignition in for a few seconds. Also, when starting the car sometimes it will start but when I let go of the key the car will shut off again and this takes about 2-3 tries for the car to stay on by itself. I'm taking it to the shop tomorrow but I would like to know some basic solutions to narrow it down. Thanks

Try disconnecting the battery cable again, but leave it off for at least 10 minutes. That will reset the computer, not sure if it will help w/ theft system though. Good Luck, Also try locking and unlocking the driver door w/ the key (not a remote) this may work.

Had similar problem last week. turn key on just before starting. no lights on dash, power window does not work nor does the radio or AC. Replaced ignition switch that key goes into. ACURA PART NUMBER IS 35130-SP0-A11 on my 1994 legend coupe. Had Acura mechanic do it at same time as having new head gaskets and plugs replaced.

There is a known issue with the ignition switch on the 98 Acura CL 3.0. The ignition was recalled by the manufacturer. This happened to my 98 CL as well. Since it was a recall, Acura may replace the ignition switch for you at no cost, not sure though as they announced the recall in 2003 I believe.

I have helped many Honda/Acura owners on this issue. Many mechanics will replace many parts prior to solving this problem, which then creates unnecessary repairs and spending. So here is my diagnosis: Notice if your speedometer drops to zero when your engine dies while driving. If this happens its your ignition switch failing. Ignition switches in Honda/Acura vehicles years 97-02 encounter faulty or shorted internal contacts. This causes premateur electrical failure to vital engine electrical parts, causing vehicle to stall intermittedly. A recall has been in place since 2002, approximately 1.3mil vehicles are affected, call your local honda/acura dealer for info and possible free repair or replace the ignition switch yourself. Hopefully my info helps you!!

I doubt they did anymore damage but i`ll bet that the engine was damaged from the training going out such as valve guides and seals and carbon build up on plugs ETC.
