Strut problem I have a Volvo 2004 S60 Turbo. Have taken my car in three times, with the last time being very expensive, to stop a popping noise around the front left wheel. They felt sure everything was fixed but now it is again popping. Is a bad strut system dangerous? Also, my radio won't turn on at times, and a fan was replaced in the dash in front of the passenger seat. I was told it was bad fan but about every ten seconds I hear what sounds like a scratching noise. Or a "urrgg" noise. If I 've taken my car in three times already, do you think it's fixable? They also worked on the front frame.

Hi. Yes. Bad suspension leads to longer braking distance and really bad stability control while turning or breaking. Usually should be replaced over 80 k depending on mark and model. I don't really think this is suspension problem, a specially on the rear The poping noise is very likely lower control arm ball joint. I'm not sure if your model got axle on the back or control arms but if you have a control arms I would check ball joint. When they bad car feels unsafe. U can usually hear the noise when u drive over the hole in the street. Your wheel drops in to it and on its way up make this noise. Let's start with this first. There are other things but you have to check ball joints first.

SOURCE: Growing noise in front end of Volvo s60

sounds like a wheel brg, if the noise lessens when you turn to the left while driving more than likely it is coming from the right side, but a brg makes more of a roaring noise.

SOURCE: [VOLVO s60 2001 turbo] My steering wheel buttons issue not working

Is the vehicle fitted with the standard stereo fitted by the manufacturer?
If not, then there is a strong chance that these controls are not compatible.

I am looking a purchase a 2nd car for minor transportation, it would be a 2004 Volvo S60-it has only 35,000 miles on it-is it time to change the timing belt?

The belt will deteriorate over time whether driven or not. I would replace it with the best quality belt you can buy just for piece of mind. Minor expense to insure against major repairs.

Are there a number of problems with this car. i want to purchase a 2003 vovlo s60t.with 67,000 miles. are after market parts expensive and availible. I own a saab and it seem to be in the shop all the time

All new car dealers are very expensive and unreliable for repair, since their main goal is only to sell new cars, not to keep older ones running well.
So you have to find alternative sources.
For Volvo, IPD is a good parts source:

Yes, Volvo parts are a little expensive, but are still a better value because they last longer.
All cars are less reliable these days because they all have added too many unreliable features, such as electric windows, door locks, keys, etc., and automatic transmissions.
But Saab is a lot more unusual and had gone through a lot more changes than Volvo. I think you will be satisfied with Volvo.

I am having trouble removing the key from the ignition of my 2004 Volvo s60. I'd seen a lot of the same problems on line, is this a common problem?

Sometimes the lock knob on the shifter sticks. If you hit the shifter forward gently a couple of times and the button pops out, the key should come out. If this works, spray some silicone between the knob and the shifter and move the release in and out until it moves freely.

My apologies for the delayed response. I am going back and answering questions that were never answered.
Click on the following Link. It has all the Diagrams for the Timing Belt you will need.
Before Clicking, let me know if this helped.
Again my sincerest apologies...

As far as the install info, due to the sheer volume and number of steps that would have to be included, you may want to purchase a Haynes Manual or Chilton Manual at an auto parts store for around $20 to $25. The above site also has On-Line Repair Manual you can purchase.
