1996 ford ranger headlights not working

Stopped working all of a sudden
all other lights working - including high beams
Just no regular headlights
Is it the dash switch or the steering column switch

  • weis0236 Feb 01, 2009

My parking lights work and all interior lights work, but no headlights. I live in MN and if I let it warm up about 10 minutes the headlights come on. They work fine when it's 20+ but not colder than that.

It's the dimmer switch in the column.

I had the same problem 1998 ford ranger. left headlight very dim. right head light worked normal. pull back for high beam flash left dim headlight would go out. put on high beems left light got even more dim. trouble shot wires and replaced blinker/high low beam/whiper unit didn't fix. replaced headlight didn't fix. looked at wireing harnes connecter that conects to headlight bulb and center (black Wire) female contacts was open more than the others. (was making weak contact (ground)
FIX:::: SLIGHTLY BENT BLADE ON HEADLIGHT TO MAKE BETTER CONTACT WITH WIRE CONECTION WITH WIDER FEMALE CONTACT RECPTICAL. HEADLIGHTS BRIGHT AS EVER AGAIN. PS ALSO PUT DIELECTRIC GREASE IN CONTACTOR.

HOPE THIS HELPS

98 Chevy metro regular headlights don't work but high beams do, suggestions?

I have seen both low beam bulbs burn out at the same time.
Its possible the relays have burnt out for the low beams.

Headlights wont work on dim, only bright

Check your head light bulbs, your truck has the dual filiment headlight bulbs one per side which does both high beam and low beam, 9007 bulbs.
If the low beam filiments are burned out only the high beam will work.
Also look into finding out if the headlight switch is gone bad.
The headlight module and or drl module maybe defective.

Ford Ranger 2002, electrical problem

You have a bad ground, look out by the battery for a bunch of black wires screwed to the body of the car, check that they have a clean and tight connection, scrap off any paint under the wires.

One headlight not working high beam works

Do I understand correctly, high beam works on both sides, but low beam only one side? If that is correct, check the bulb plug and contacts, clean any corrosion, coat w dielectric grease (available at any parts store). It's much more likely at the connection (plug in) than a wire. If this doesn't help, let me know.

Headlights

The only thing that all of your problems have in common is the light switch and the dash wiring harness. The stereo is linked to the light switch because of it's illumination feature' You need to test the light switch with a test light by probing the wires at it's plug.
