The heater fan does not work, there is a live feed at the fuse but not at the heater switch, but in the passenger footwell there are 2 wires going into the housing where the fan resistor is 1 is black/red, the other is violet/orange, both of these have a live feed when the ignition is on.
I have tried putting a live feed to the conector that goes on the back of the heater control, still the fan does not work.

Replace the temp control on this car, it should be electrical control not cables.

Since its presently working, don't mess with it yet. You can put a toggle switch in between so you can turn it on and off (you can even mount it under the dash). Get a good wiring diagram and use it to make sense of what you have.(Chilton makes a good diagram book which can sometimes be found in the library) I would not rely on Haynes for this,,, I've seen their diagrams and even with 30yrs in the business, I can't make heads or tails out of their stuff over 90% of the time!!)
Likely, there was a problem in the system to start with and the previous owner opted to just hot wire it rather than repair it. Therefore your problem is not only locating and re-connecting stuff, but figuring out what the other guy either didn't want to fix or couldn't figure out himself! Take your time with this and you can figure it out!!! Though this may not qualify as a "solution" it will help get you pointed in the right direction!
Good luck

Check the Blower motor Resistor . It is located under the dashboard near the blower motor. It has a 4 wire plug and a couple of screws attaching the resistor in place.

you can buy a pair of 2 prongs that fit into sides of panel and then you just pull it out. i was told halfords sell them for couple of quid. good luck

All auto fans run on 12-16volts. That voltage should be whatever the cars battery/alternator voltage is at the time. If not working and your blower is checked out as good you more then likely have a bad blower resistor which controls the speeds of the blower. You can verify by pulling the harness to blower and applying 12volts directly to the motor and if it comes on your most likely cause is the resistor
