SOURCE: Engine light just started to come on. The oil level checks out.

check the gas cap...i"ve found that a loose cap will set off the check light...if you dont have a computer to recall or reset the codes i believe it"ll just go away after you drive it for a couple days on its on once corrected.

Testimonial: "Maybe helpful. I will check to see if loose and retighten. Thanks"

TICKING NOISES COMING FROM LIFTERS

You sure it is coming from the lifters ? The injectors make the same kind of noise. But you can try changing the oil more often every three thousand miles is what is recommended instead of the five thousand like some people tell you. I have a 1998 dodge 5.2 with 199584 miles on it no problems changed oil every three thousand miles.

I have a 2007 Jeep Wrangler X with 53,700. I have started hearing what sounds like the engine valves rattling when I accelarate. What could be causing this problem

When was your last oil change? Is the proper viscosity oil in it? Modern engines do NOT like oil other than what over-paid engineers have designed it to use, and NO additives. Have the Oxygen sensors checked. They could be leaning out the engine. My personal vehicles get the oil changed every 3 to 6 thousand miles, without fail. I've spent thousands of hours trying to convince customers to change their oil more often than 10 to 15 thousand miles to no avail.

I own a 05' chevy trailblazer w/127,000miles when will I need a tune-up?

A tune up is based on a couple things.Number one, is when the dealer wants to pay his lease. Meaning you can go to almost any dealer or mechanical shop and they of course want to make money like we all do. What i do, and suggest to others is , always have your oil changed every 3 to 4 thousand miles, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter as needed.Injectors cleaned every about 20 thousand miles. As far as a tune up, with all just mentioned with new plugs once a year depending on your mileage you put on it and if it is mostly town or freeway. Bottom like is this, make sure you keep up on your oil changes, and all filters, plugs maybe once a year( you can do those yourself, just make sure when you take out plugs and put new ones in there gaped right. Keep all fluids up, oil, antifreeze, break fluids. About 50 thousand miles, you have transmission and rear end fluids checked and filled or replaced as needed, and of course chassis lubed. There is no real way to determine a so called tune up, it is a matter of how well you maintained the car with the oil changes and common sense. I hope this helps. Mike from Fixya

I want to know when to do the serving of my Toyota Camry 1998. When to change the oil

Most import vehicle manufactures recommend changing oil at 5-7 thousand miles. When you have a wide range of temp as in the Northern United States, you need to have the oil changed 3-5 thousand miles. The reason is that the oil collects condensation after it has been up to operating temps, and shut off. There is some test that are being checked as to if the hot and humid temps have the same effect as in the winter months. I believe, it should be changed every 3 months and 3 thousand miles, which ever occurs first. I have used Synthetic oil in all of my vehicles, both cars and SUV's and change them at 5,000 miles. One of my Explorer's has passed 500,000 miles and the other one has 268,000. My cars also have Syn oil, is over 232,000 and no Mechanical problems in any of them. I hope this helps you with your question. Craig

How often do it need an tune up,oil change engine coolant and brakes changed?wen to check the oil

this depends on how you drive and how many miles you have on your car and what type oil you are using, on a 1994 you should do a tune up every 30 to 40 thousand miles. You need to do a engine clean then change oil. if you use a good quality oil you can go every 3 to 5 thousand miles on changing oil. You need to change the oil in the drive train after 30 thousand miles and the transmission oil and filter should be changed every 30 thousand miles. Also the Thermostat and antifreeze should be changed every two years to make sure the anti freeze is still lubricating the water pump. Failure to change antifreeze has burt up more engines than I can recall. Check oil in the morning when cold. Check the transmission oil when hot and in park. If you want more detailed information post here.

Servicing cars

You should change your oil & filter every 3 to 5 thousand miles. The more frequently you change the oil, the more life you will get out of the engine. Rotate the tires every other oil change. Replace the air filter every 15 thousand miles. Flush the cooling system and flush the transmission (automatic) every 30 thousand. Change the iridium plugs every 90 thousand. There is no timing belt to worry about, that veh has a timing CHAIN. That is basically it.
